Hedgehog Leaf Decoration Kit

Autumn is coming and with it the desire to decorate the house for fall and Halloween, thankfully I have just the thing courtesy of Baker Ross. Along with several other amazing craft kits that they sent us was one to make some lovely hedgehog leaf decorations. What I particularly like about their kits is that they do not require anything else other than glue and this kit is no different. Which actually made it the perfect craft activity to take on holiday with us! Staying in self catering accommodation this year still means I need activities to keep Monkey amused!

Hedgehog Decorations Craft Kit

The kit contains

  • 5 foam hedgehogs in various colours, with feet and ears to match
  • 5 colour ribbons for hanging
  • Black foam noses
  • Goggly eyes
  • 60 foam leaves

In addition you will need

  • Glue stick to attach the eyes only, all the foam has a sticky back

Once I had laid it out, Monkey quickly opted first for a grey hedgehog with the red and green leaves, I had to sit on my hands so not to interfere with where he was sticking them.

We also ended up with ears on the other side of the hedgehog as well as on the front! I think the kit is designed to decorate only one side but with all the leaves you have, you could easily decorate both sides, especially if you are three and decide they only need a few leaves each!

IMG_1073Monkey also got some fine motor skills practice in by peeling off the back of the leaves, with great concentration. I will be touching more on fine motor skills in my next Baker Ross post. The paper also doubled as good hedgehog food! In fact he enjoyed playing with the decorations before ribbon was attached. Snuffling them around the room and all over his grandparents.

I really like Baker Ross kits as they are such good quality, there is always enough material to make the item and you are not left wanting for additional pieces of the kit to finish it off. As I was struggling not to interfere I decided to make one of my own using red, orange and yellow leaves. When I had finished it,  Monkey was quite taken by it and wanted to copy my version.

Once he had something to copy I was very impressed with the way he stuck  the leaves down. As I had used the same shape leaves (sorry my OCD was kicking in) Monkey wanted to do the same thing. This gave me an excuse to talk about the different leaf shapes in the kit – those which looked like Oak leaves and those similar to Maple leaves (we were in in Canada when we created with this kit). He also started to sort the leaves – completely unaided he placed them into a line selecting three leaves of the same shape for his hedgehog.

We stopped at three decorations as he was starting to get distracted and it had taken us about half an hour, his normal attention span for a crafting activity is about 20 minutes so he had done pretty well. The good news is that we still have two more to make and loads of leaves left to do so. Before tidying up Monkey grouped the rest of the leaves by colour and shape. Happy to be able to get some sorting practice in as well!

I think our finished decorations ended up looking pretty good!

I really like this set and would happily recommend it to my friends. Thank you Baker Ross, we now have some lovely hedgehog decorations for Autumn and I suspect they will make an appearance at our Halloween Party!

The kit retails at £3.49 and you can find it here on the Baker Ross Website.

Ahh, I’m a big fan of hedgehogs – I used to collect anything hedgehoggy as a child. Might investigate these as a stocking filler to put away for Christmas…. X MMT
