12 Weeks or rather 13+1

This is the next instalment of our pregnancy journey. The below are extracts from my journal which I have written each week (I am now almost 19 weeks and we know the gender!). You can read about how I felt when we found out here. I will be posting other weeks extracts in the coming days.

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous as we waited for the scan appointment. The hospital was running late, which didn’t help my very full bladder. To be honest I was fully expecting for the baby not to be there or worse just a bundle of cells that hadn’t continued to develop. There was absolutely no reason what so ever for me to feel like that. I just did. All sensibility goes out the window when you are sitting in that waiting room.

However we need not have worried as there bubba was laying almost motionless sleeping, happy, fat and complete. At one point the baby put its hands above its head as it it was waving and saying – hey look at me. It was a huge contrast to when we  saw Monkey for the first scan he was kicking around all over the place. Like a little footballer.  The difference between the two is amazing! At that moment I decided Monkey was a boy.

I haven’t had the epiphany this time round although I am leaning towards a girl . Instead of measuring exactly 12 weeks as expected we were shocked to get the 13 +1 measurement. This brought my due date forward to 2nd of May. Even only at 13 weeks it couldn’t come soon enough.

As I dashed off to the loo the sonographer came out handed the details and two little photos to Hubby. They are currently my most treasured possession and live next to the bed. In the not too distant future they will find their way into the pregnancy journal. We also had the screening blood tests done, something else which is different from last time round.

Our 12 week Scan

Now we are viable I’ve decided to nickname bubba and have settled on Pip. Partly because the first time we saw bubba, it was the size of an apple Pip. Monkey’s nickname was potato after my craving for mashed potato and jacket potatoes. To be honest food wise I’m not improving at the rate I hoped. I am drawn to potato again and also cheese! I try and eat more at lunchtime opting for something warm where possible such as macaroni cheese! A lot depends on whether I’m on the road or not. Still can’t really stomach fizzy drinks and on the few occasions we’ve been out for food I’ve asked of milk – yes already! But the acid is disappearing.

Weight wise I’ve been the same now for several weeks although well into maternity bottoms. Not really missing the wine yet – surprisingly. Still queasy but not being sick and I’ve learnt not to eat things I know that will turn my stomach such as chicken and fish.

I also told work. My boss actually thought I was preparing him for my resignation rather than a short disappearance, so it was all okay. A compliment in a way. Afterwards I wondered what the sleepless nights were about!

Maternity clothes wise I am thinking of splurging on a new Winter coat since this year it’s meant to get cold and I feel like a small house already.

  1. Oh, your post made me quite miss being pregnant, despite the indigestion, weird food cravings and no wine. Enjoy this lovely time! #PicknMix

  2. This reminded me of my first scan too – bladder full to bursting, sonographer running late and me feeling certain I would be told I’d imagined being pregnant! I also craved lots of dairy while pregnant. Hope the remaining weeks until due date fly by for you 🙂 picknmix

  3. I remember feeling nervous when pregnant with Blake throughout all my scans. It’s such a lovely magical moment when u see ur babyon the scan for the first time and know they are alright.

Congratulations, and glad the scan went well. With my first it was like watching and feeling a footballer thoroughout! E was much much calmer and I get the feeling he might be calmer growing up too! A new coat sounds the ideal splurge!

  8. I always enjoy reading your journals you have a powerful unique voice and that is refreshing in the blogging world. Perhaps I have been reading the wrong blogs but yours is a rarity and there are not many bloggers that are so descriptive and honest which I like. Looking forward to reading the next entry.

  9. Scans are so special. I remember the first scan with my eldest and I was so excited I almost cried. Such a lovely time for you, x

  10. So glad your scan went well, it makes it feel more real and a relief to know all is good with the baby. So happy for you lovely,
