Some characters just stay with you, Elmer is one of those. Although he made his debut when I was ten years old, I do remember my brother having the books when he was younger. The iconic books were first published by Andersen Press in 1989. Written and illustrated by celebrated children’s author and artist David McKee, they have been translated into over fifty languages a testament to their popularity. And now in 2017 the first range of baby clothes has been added to the branded merchandise programme. To accompany the launch available exclusively in Sainsbury’s newly designed plush toys and brand new publishing across the year.
We were very kindly offered some of the new merchandise to test out. Available in the range is a 1.5 tog sleeping bag (RRP £15), a sleep suit (RRP £7), pjs (RRP £7), bib (RRP £2.50) and bodysuit (RRP £5).
Made from 100% cotton they are super soft. I love the white background which really makes Elmer stand out. Plus it has the benefit of being neutral so would make the perfect gift for expecting parents. Available from 0-12 months I loved them instantly. Whats not to love about the rainbow colours and the gorgeous designs and appliqué. I particularly like the non slip soles on the sleep suit and pjs.
Kipper is a large baby and is in the 9-12 months size, there is lots of room in the pjs for him to grow into. However there is less room in the sleep suit, partly because of the way it does up down one side of the body and he has particularly chunky (rugby player) legs.
Along with the range of clothes there are also some new look plush toys from Rainbow designs also including a taggie blanket and rattle. As you can see the plush toy was a great hit with Kipper.
Along with the clothing and toys there are number of new books being released throughout the year. Kipper loved one of the new buggy books – Hello Animals, there is also a colour version. Of course not wanting to leave Monkey out he decided to claim the stunning new releases of Elmer and Elmer & Wilbur. With beautiful hard overs and thick pages, the colours are intense and make you want to read them. Monkey loved flicking through the pages… it was difficult to get him to stop so I could read them to him!! There are more releases coming in March, May and September.
On Saturday 27th May 2017 there will be the second Elmer Day, an annual celebration of everything Elmer. With lots of events happening up and down the country, you can find your nearest on the Elmer Day Website. You can also sign up to receive your own events pack including a guide on how to hold an event, stickers, posters, games and activity sheets. Heres Monkey colouring in his very own Elmer, there is also a pin the trunk on Elmer and colouring game.
