As a busy working mum I am always short on the one thing which money can’t buy… TIME! I am constantly juggling the kids, work and my new business. I know speaking to my mum friends that I am not alone. And if I am honest I drop balls… far to many of them on occasion, thankfully nothing serious and nothing we haven’t been able to recover from, maybe just a missed lunch box here and there and remembering to buy fruit and veg for the harvest festival. I know I am not the only one but that mummy guilt is a killer.

My only solution is to get more organised and to stop trying to remember everything in my head. I am not super woman…shhhh I don’t admit that very often. I am slowly learning to carve out my time but in order to do it effectively I have to write things down and then more importantly plan. Plan our family time together so its quality time and not just chore time and to plan where I want to take my business. So when I was approached by the team at Illustries to review their Hello Time Life Planner  a grown-up life planner with no gimmicks, glitter or unicorns. I was intrigued to see if it lived up to expectation – as they claimed it would be the one book needed to keep me organised.

When it arrived I was super impressed it was beautifully packaged in black and white tissue paper which resembles the embossed cover. I am a little bit of a stationary fan and love a new planner, but trying to find one that gives me the flexibility to use it the way I want to is difficult. I much prefer a planner with lots of white space that I can doodle my heart out all over. The Hello Time Life Planner gives me exactly that. Theres a lots of white space which means I can organise things the way I need. With its clean lines, its neutral colours, funky graphics and quotes its perfect. The black cover is fabric with embossed wording, its deep black but in order for you to see the wording in the photo below it looks a little green! So you will have to take my word for it.

I think the thing I like the most about the planner is that it is not dated. So no matter what time of the year you can pick it up and use it. There are various section of the planner is all about goals. I really like the way the pages are divided up into a grid. Its nice to have something which is not linear, it also makes me more motivated to fill it in.

Each month has month at a glance page, all of which go up to 31 days. Again there is no named month. This is perfect for seeing appointments, special days out, birthdays etc. I will also use if for planning posts and my social media calendar. The notes section is great for adding in contact details and phone numbers which you may need for that month.

The weekly pages give you plenty more space to go into detail. This is exactly what I look for in planner. I must have a week to view and a notes page next opposite. I use the notes page for my to do list. You see my to do list gets very long so I find that by breaking it down into what I want to achieve each week means that it doesn’t get over whelming. Its also great if you are running a business or a creative as you can keep your business to do list with the diary and then the family to do list in another area in the planner.

As there are several pages of to dos with little tick boxes next to the entires. Perfect for non urgent, or for another area of your life. Each section of the planner includes divisions with little quotes in various fonts. Plus the double ribbon allows you to mark more than one area of the planner.

I feel inspired by all the white space perfect for extra doodling time, plus I am a big fan of mind maps so theres lots of space for those too. The Hello Time Planner also has some extra sections which I have not seen in other planners. Owning and running a fledgling business means I need a business plan. Which I have. But I have not looked at it since it was written. Mainly because I don’t carry it around with me all the time. But there is a section in the planner where I can add my goals, the resources I need, challenges, my strategy, any detail and how I am going to measure it. Visually its a lot more pleasing than a typed business plan too so I am going to be switching to this format going forward. Of course having it in the planner means that I can also carry it around with me all the time.

There is a also a time line which I can use for project planning and a little area to record my worries. Not only is this a great planner for day to day life it will make a massive difference to how I run and develop my business going forward. I am super impressed with this planner and can really see the benefits of using it. You can buy your own online on the Illustries website with an RRP of £39.
