I am not a fan of monthly posts… normally because I struggle to keep them up. However because I am constantly finding inspiration for places to add to our travel bucket list I can’t see how else to do this. So each month I will be writing about the places being added to our Ultimate Travel Bucket List. I am going to limit each post to five destinations, places or even attractions with a brief explanation of the reasons behind why they are being added. I should be clear this is a wish list and its going to be a long one…

1. Machu Picchu – Peru

This has been on our list since Hubby and I met at number one. Its the first place we would head to if we ever won the lottery and had the chance to go anywhere. Although with two young children we would need to take the train rather than a four day hike to the summit. For me its the history, the photo opportunities and the sheer enormity of it. I think my obsession started when I got a reference book out of the school library on the wonders of the world. Its defiantly a travellers right of passage. Can you even call yourself an adventurer until you have seen the sun rise over the iconic archaeological site?

2. Reykjavik – Iceland

The thought of sitting in a thermal hot spring while all around you there is snow on the ground really appeals to me. The steam from the water rising into the cold, moody sky as the mountains look on. But there are so many other things that attract me to the capital city of Iceland. Whale watching, exploring ice caves and visiting the golden circle have also got to make it onto my list. I would also love a chance to see the Northern Lights again. This time with Hubby who missed out when we visited Finland in November. Plus as its only a three hour flight its more than possible to do it in a long weekend.

3. The Isle of Skye

I remember seeing a picture of a white sand beach, with bright turquoise sea and not quite believing that it was taken in the UK. It was Coral Beach on the Isle of Skye. The largest of the the Islands in the Inner Hebrides its been on our Summer hit list for a while. As well as the beaches I would like to take a boat out to the Northwesterly point to spot Puffins and Seals. There are also some little waterfalls called fairy pools and plenty of opportunities to go off grid and make the most of the natural surroundings.

4. Supertree Grove – Singapore

Many of the items that will appear in these monthly posts will be destinations which I have come across in travel magazines. There is something about them. I can not resist the glossy pages! This month I have discovered the Supertree Grove in Singapore. They super trees also light up at night and play music which apparently has an uncanny resemblance to an alien spacecraft. I can imagine the boys faces as the marvel at the giant structures and the photos!

5. Glacier Express – Switzerland

Ever since we went up to Edinburgh on the train I have developed a bit of a fascination about travelling by them. I stumbled upon the Glacier Express on Pinterest. The thought of travelling through the mountains with snow either side. The boys faces eagerly pushed up against the glass watching the passing scenery go by in a blur of white. I’ve not done enough research into it yet. So don’t know the best time to take the journey or where to pick it up from. Plus I think Kipper is probably a little to young for it at the moment but its definitely on the list.

Make sure you come back next month to see the places thatI have added to our list for February. Whats number one on your list? I would love to hear about it in the comments below.
