Review The Gruffalo Summer Party – Last weekend we were invited to the Gruffalo Summer Party show at Chessington World of Adventures. In the last few months Kipper had discovered the Julia Donaldson books. His favourites, the Gruffalo, ZOG and Room on the Broom all feature in their new Summer show. For this reason we were very excited about going. Plus it gave us  a chance to try out the new Room on the Broom experience.

Before the show itself we got a chance to head first to the Gruffalo Ride. This has long been a favourite of all of ours. In fact I wrote a post about our first experience back in 2017. If you have not visited before you travel through the Gruffalo story in a little round boat. Bobbing along and spinning around. There are some modern effects, including giant dandelion clocks and a plasma screen with snake squeezing mouse. At the end of the ride you actually go through the Gruffalo crumble projected onto dry ice. Kipper’s face is always full of wonderment every time we go round. On this trip I think we went went round three or four times, he really didn’t want to leave.

After we headed to the Room on Broom ride, situated in the old Hocus Pocus Hall. We were asked specifically to put our cameras away. So the only way to see what goes onside is to visit yourself. It consists of walking through various rooms including one with a secret door. Each room has an interactive element and tells the story of The Room on the Broom. Theres even a mirror maze at the end.

At the end of the ride you can head up to the experience. Where you get to star in your very own Room on the Broom movie! Monkey thought it was great fun sitting in the green room on a broom! As you enter you get to choose certain things such as the character, accessory and background. So you can really personalise your experience. I think it came out really well…. even with the toddler

Next we headed to the arena to see the beginnings of the show. Each character is walked in giving the children plenty of opportunity to see them, since they walk through the crowd and up the red carpet. All our favourites were there – The Highway Rat, Witch, ZOG, The Gruffalo, Stickman along with Betty O’Barley & Harry O’Hay. It was a great introduction to the show and got everyone excited for the party.

It wasn’t long until the characters were preparing for the party. Each bringing a different party accessory such as balloons or cake which magically appeared on the huge screen behind them. Each character brought a different toe tapper to the party as well. It got all the kids up and dancing enjoying the old songs. Even the parents joined in. The show itself only lasted about twenty minutes which is perfect for little ones with the Gruffalo blowing out his candles at the end. Afterwards we got the chance to meet the stars of the show for a photo opportunity.

The Gruffalo Summer Party is a great addition to the line up at Chessington World of Adventures. Its a must for any Julia Donaldson fan and I am sure will be entertaining children and parents alike over the Summer period. Appearing everyday from the 19th of July to the 2nd of September, there are three shows a day at 12 noon, 2pm and 4pm. Find out more on their website.
