A Postcard from St Ives

A Postcard from St Ives: While we were staying at Tregenna Castle we decided to explore St Ives a little. We had intended on looking around the little streets and shops, but never made it once we found the beach! Had I done our research better I would have realised that there are several beaches in St Ives. Its just as well that luck was on our side, following the parking signs through the town we chanced upon Porthmeor Beach. It was early afternoon and the car parks were busy. Im not surprised as I did not realise until we saw the flag flying that the beach has the blue flag award.

There is a surf school on the beach which means its easy to access with a buggy due to the ramps. Monkey was instinctively drawn to the sea like many other small boys of his age, needless to say his dry clean jeans did not last long. Thankfully it was warm enough for them to dry off and I had a spare pair of socks. I love that his face is full of excitement. It wasn’t long until we started to collect some of the small black flat stones we found on the beach.

Kipper hates socks so happily crawled around the beach in a footless all weather suit feeling the sand in his toes. The sand is quite corse, which suits me since I hate the really fine stuff. But I think it must have felt weird in-between his toes. He also decided that it may taste nice!

After getting wet, exploring and tasting we decided to get a drink in a little bar which overlooked the beach. It was really busy but they managed to squeeze us it. It was very relaxing watching the tide come, and we had a perfect view of St Nicolas Chapel and the dark grey clouds that were gathering. This is now definitely on our list for a return visit…
