Visiting the Reindeer at Garsons Farm

UPDATE – this post was originally written in December 2015 there are no Reindeer at Garsons Farm in 2021. Check back next year for more information

You may remember that in October we visited Garson’s Farm to pick our own pumpkin. A friend of mine happen to mention that they have some very special visitors this Christmas time, so this weekend we took a trip to visit Halo and Storm.

The reindeer are housed at the back of the garden centre in their own marquee with plenty of fresh straw and a little shelter. What I love is that they look like the the reindeer in the picture books. Unlike others we have visited they have large antlers and do not smell!! The straw is very fresh and clean. There are two staff on hand to help, one handing out food and ‘I visited the reindeer’ stickers. The other dressed up as a Princess to take wishes and generally entertain. On the website it also says that each day they take a walk around the garden centre.

Not surprisingly there was a steady supply of little people hoping to have a look. Above Monkey is feeding Halo the younger of the two. They also have a hand washing station with warm water and soap. Considering it doesn’t cost a penny its definitely worth a visit if you are in the local area.

IMG_4560Garson’s Farm and Garden Centre offers a lot more than just the reindeer and we were there for a good couple of hours. The pick your own is closed this time of year however they have just opened up their new restaurant. We stopped for lunch, there was a fabulous selection of cakes and pastries. As well as some hot meals, jacket potatoes and sandwiches. For the children they have a small selection of hot meals or lunch bags.  There is plenty of seating although it was very busy when we visited and we ended up waiting half an hour for soup IMG_4567and a jacket potato. I think they probably have some teething issues as its not been opened long.  When lunch did turn up Monkey benefited from some free treats to say sorry.

There are plenty of Christmas decorations to browse around, as well as lighting and Christmas trees. I would avoid the toy department this time of year! We even managed to find a little play area, which we didn’t last time we visited.

It helped Monkey burn off some steam before we drove home.
