Yoto Mini Review. Harry has a favourite toy in the house. He likes to listen to the audio story cards each night before bed. And will often take himself away to his bedroom and listen to his Yoto original while drawing or playing. However, when we travel it can be difficult to take the Yoto Player with us. It is quite bulky and not really designed for moving around. So I was delighted when Yoto brought out their Yoto Mini which is designed to do just that. Not only that but you can get a whole host of accessories which make it super convenient to travel with. Plus at the bottom of this post, I have a Yoto Mini Discount Code!

ToggleWhat is a Yoto Mini?
Put simply it is a portable audio player which allows your child to listen to various different stories both at home and on the move. This is a screen-free audio player. If you have wifi then you can make use of physical cards, by placing them into the card slot on the top of the yoto mini. However, if you are travelling without wifi then you can select the story card from the parent-controlled yoto app. The app will have all the cards you have purchased downloaded and so it is really easy to switch between them. One of the best things about the Yoto Mini and Yoto Player is that there are no adverts and as the parent, you have complete control.
Yoto Mini Features
Yoto mini’s size measures just 7cm x 7cm x 4cm which makes it perfect for when you are on the go and for car journeys. Fitting into the palm of kids hands. Although it has a smaller screen, there is a pixel display which shows characters in the stories and pictures relating to each chapter of the story. Just like the yoto original. On one charge Yoto Mini can play for up to 20 hours which makes it perfect for travelling. Unlike its brother, it comes with a USB-c cable for charging which makes it easy to charge on the go and one less thing to transport. It also has an ‘okay to wake up’ facility with a night clock. Allowing the parents to set the time in the app, encouraging little ones to stay in bed a bit longer in the morning. Although it does not have nightlight features like the original yoto player which other than size is the main difference. The audio device can also be used with headphones.
First impressions and set-up of our Yoto Mini review
In theory, it is a very quick setup process. But, I found it much more difficult than our original Yoto Player. Not sure if it was just because we were under pressure to leave the house on our travels the first time we turned it on. But I would recommend setting this up in advance. It is simple as far as you charge it with a USB cable, download the app and pop an audio card in the back. All you need to do is ensure that is connected to your wifi at home.
However, if you want to use it while mobile, you need to wait for the audio stories to download if you want to play them without wifi. So, depending on how many you have in your app, you may need to leave your Yoto Player plugged in and attached to your home wifi overnight. After this, it was easy! As it now means, all our story cards were on the yoto mini. It has 16 GB of audio storage, which is enough for our curated library.
Yoto Mini review – overall thoughts
The small speaker is perfect for travelling families. Firstly, the yoto mini’s small size makes it instantly transportable. The fast usb-c cables are easy-charging and can provide up to 20 hours of playback on one charge. To preserve day battery life there is an automatic display timeout 15s. The chunky orange buttons have been designed with little hands. The robust design makes it perfect for big adventures, long car rides, and bedtime stories, allowing kid’s endless curiosity with a push of a button.
There is a wide range of pre-loaded cards audio cards
This is the best thing about the Yoto Mini player. There are so many different audio stories available with something for kids of all ages. We have been fans for several years and they are constantly adding more to the library. I really like that many of the titles are from well-known authors such as Roald Dahl and Julia Donaldson. With many of them being priced at around £6.99. We find the best yoto cards are those which come in bundles as they work out great value for money with a bundle of six starting from £19.99. Plus if you spend over £40 there is free shipping.
It is not just Audio Books
It is not just stories, the audio cards include activities, a music player and sleep sound cards. The is also free content and free podcasts, with a yoto daily podcast and family yoto radio station. If you have younger children, then you can also play white noise through the speaker.
The Bluetooth speaker appeals to a wider audience for a toy, from zero to twelve, with audio content relevant to each age group. It is also possible for you to record your own audio onto blank cards to make your own yoto cards. The boys enjoy making their own cards and own stories, it is a great activity for older children. And there are audiobooks in other languages. Such as French, Spanish and German so as they start to learn languages at school it’s a great way to support their learning.
Harry can use it on his own
Because it is so easy to operate Harry can use the Yoto Mini all by himself choosing the cards he wants to listen to. We have often found ourselves in a hotel room and he just snuggles down and listens to his stories all by himself. There have even been times when he has walked down to breakfast wearing his headphones. The sound quality of the audio streaming on the yoto platform is very good.
You do not need a wi-fi connection
Because it is possible to download the content onto Mini Yoto via the smartphone app it is ideal for road trips when you do not have an internet connection. The Yoto Player* can hold up to 140 hours of content with 16GB. And also has a headphone jack which means Harry can happily listen along in quiet on the back seat. If you are looking for slightly more from your Yoto player then you may want to consider a Yoto Player instead of a Yoto Mini.
The Yoto Club makes a great subscription gift
One of the other great things about Yoto Player is that you can sign up for the Yoto Player club. The Yoto Club starts at just £3.99 per month or £29.99 annually (Explorer) up to £12.99 a month or £119 annually (Collector +).
Collector + members can use these to order your choice of two Yoto Cards from the Club collection. You can use them right away or save them for up to twelve months. Your Club Credits will expire if not used within 12 months. Free shipping on all orders with no minimum spend. This is a great deal when you think new cards range from £7.99-£9.99 each.
Lots of gifting options
If you are looking to build a collection of story cards, then they make great gifts. If you are not sure what stories the children may like then you can filter the audio cards by best sellers, new products and suitable age ranges. There are lots of yoto accessories you can buy, for the Yoto Mini, I would recommend the travel case as it means everything is contained in one place. You can keep story cards, headphones, charging cables and the Yoto Mini itself in there. I would recommend the mini adventure jacket as the silicone jacket will protect your Yoto Player Mini while travelling.
Yoto App & Wake-Up Time
Harry is not the best at sleeping in. He has always been up early. Yet using the yoto player app, I can set the wake-up and sleep time meaning the picture changes from the sun to the moon. Indicating it is bedtime.
The app also gives you complete control over the audio files and means that it is easy to select the device on which you want the audio card to play. The app allows you to manage Bluetooth connectivity and pairing, the library and clock operating times. You can also use it to make your own cards in your family accounts.
