I do love going for afternoon tea and we are spoilt for choice in Kent. With some amazingly different venues there is something for every taste and budget. I thought it would be useful to pull together details of some of the places where you can go for afternoon tea in Kent.

The Best Afternoon Tea in Kent

Prices and details are correct as of March 2023 so please bear this in mind. And check the individual website before attending your afternoon tea experience. I will be coming back to update this post frequently and add in new finds. Alice And The Hatter – Herne Bay

  • Where: 24 William St, Herne Bay CT6 5EQ
  • Cost: Starting price £22.95
  • Anything special to mention: Booking is required and a deposit is needed for the reservation. Not open on a Monday or a Tuesday. They can not accommodate buggies in the tea room. 

This is one of the best themed afternoon tea in Kent. It is so well presented and the food not only looks incredible but tastes amazing. This is an ideal venue to enjoy an afternoon tea with your family or friends for any special occasion especially things like Mother’s day. Booking is required for this location and you will need to pay a deposit to secure your booking, however, this will be deducted from your bill. Fleur De Thé – Rochester

  • Where: Rochester – 134 High St, Rochester ME1 1JT or Bexleyheath – Danson House, Danson Park, Bexleyheath, Kent, DA6 8HL
  • Cost: Starting price £25.50, add a single serving of Tosti Pink Moscato or Tosti Prosecco for £32.50 to turn it into a champagne afternoon tea. Children’s afternoon tea is available for £16.95 for up to the age of 8.
  • Anything special to mention: You can purchase gift vouchers. Booking is required. Maximum of 8 guests. Larger parties will need to discuss arrangements. There is an online booking system. Served at either 1 pm or 3 pm. 

A lovely place if you want to enjoy afternoon tea. There are upgrades available to the menus and you can book this ahead of time and online for convenience. There is seating inside and out but for afternoon tea seating is usually inside. The venue has been decorated with floral and pastel shades making it feel like an elegant place to enjoy your afternoon tea in Kent. There is a specialist menu available for Mother’s day and booking is required. However, if you prefer to visit any other day you can also buy gift vouchers for ease.

If you want plush surroundings when looking for a Mother’s day afternoon tea in Kent then you have to consider this beautiful country club hotel. Chilston Park Hotel is a wonderful location set on beautiful grounds this really will make you feel extra special. With afternoon tea in Kent served in the Marble Lounge. There are upgrades available and you do need to book this in advance. There is a special Mother’s day menu that is nice to take advantage of and also a children’s option. You can have up to eight guests but any more will require a private dining room and extra charges will be added. (£12.50 a head). If you are looking for a tea room in Kent then this is one of the best ones to go to located in a 16th-century building. There are so many different afternoon tea options with varying costs and upgrades that you are truly spoiled for choice. This is a lovely place to consider enjoying afternoon tea for Mother’s day or any other special occasion. Booking is required for this venue but it really does feel like one of the more specialist locations to enjoy your afternoon tea. Church View Tea Rooms – Ashford

  • Cost: Starting price £24.95 for two or £12.95 each.
  • Anything special to mention: Scones and cakes are all homemade and vegan options are available. 

If you want something that is a little more relaxed then this is the best place to visit. With a wide selection of sandwiches and cakes to choose from. The Church View Tea Rooms is a lovely venue that is serving fresh produce and prides itself on delivering delicious afternoon tea with unlimited tea. Booking is advised to avoid disappointment. The Secret Garden – Private bookings only

This is a lovely venue if you are looking for something a little more luxurious. A beautiful setting and the ideal place to treat your mum this Mother’s day. It is also an ideal location to enjoy afternoon tea in Kent for any other special occasion. You will really love coming here and while it might be a specialist venue for things like weddings you can also enjoy private dining as a small party if there are a few guests you want to treat. Leeds Castle – Maidstone

  • Cost: Starting price £22 for the afternoon tea
  • Anything special to mention: Special surroundings, open Monday to Thursday 12 pm to 2.30 pm and Friday to Sunday 12 pm to 3 pm.

If you were looking for something spectacular to enjoy afternoon tea Kent then Leeds Castle is an excellent venue to consider. One of several historic castles in Kent. It is reasonably priced and you get the chance to enjoy a high tea in one of the most iconic locations in Kent. You do need to purchase admission tickets so you can make the day of it by exploring the castle grounds during your visit. Cafe Nucleus – Rochester

  • Where: Halpern Conservancy Board Building, 15 High St, Rochester ME1 1PY
  • Cost: Starting price £30 for a standard afternoon tea. Or £38 for their Winter afternoon tea which includes a glass of Kentish sparkling wine. 
  • Anything special to mention: Booking is required, they change the menu with the season and so prices may vary. 

Are you looking for a modern location to enjoy afternoon tea? Then look no further than Cafe Nucleus. The Rochester site is a great location and is in the town centre making it possible to enjoy the high street and even Rochester Castle during your visit. There is one menu but you can enjoy lunch options as well as there is plenty to choose from for children. Booking it required to avoid disappointment. Afternoon tea is served in the boardroom, which is reminiscent of a lost era with beautiful oak panelling, high ceilings and British-made chandelier ‘The urchin’. Spa Valley Railway – Tunbridge Wells

  • Where: West Station, Nevill Terrace, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, TN2 5QY

  • Anything special to mention: Booking required. Enjoy an afternoon tea while experiencing a train journey. Selected dates (several times a month) so check the website.

This is definitely a more unique afternoon tea as not only can you enjoy luxurious food and drink but you are also embarking on a train journey during your time. You are guaranteed to feel extra special during your trip on the railway all while enjoying scrumptious food. There are a few upgrades available and the price does include your ticket so although it may seem pricey compared to the other suggestions, it is a worthwhile experience. This is something that you can only experience on selected dates so you do need to check the website and book in advance to avoid any disappointment.   • Cost: Starting price £34 with the option to upgrade with a glass of champagne. 
  • Anything special to mention: Upgrades are available. Booking required. Afternoon tea gift vouchers are available.

This is a lovely location if you are hoping to enjoy stunning surroundings or even take advantage of spa facilities and combine an afternoon tea with something relaxing. The Eastwell Manor offers three menus for afternoon tea and all are delicious. There is also the option for and ELEMIS afternoon tea. You can book this in advance or purchase gift vouchers if you don’t want to commit to a date. This is a great option if you are looking for an afternoon tea to celebrate Mother’s day. Another spectacular hotel venue for afternoon tea in Kent it is a great option to consider. Booking is required and you can do this online for extra ease. There are upgrades available that include a glass of champagne to make the occasion feel extra special. You will enjoy beautiful savoury and sweet treats and if there is a large group of you then there are also private dining options. This is another fabulous location if you are wanting to experience a modern take on afternoon tea. You can also add a glass of bubbles to your afternoon tea if you are wanting to make it feel extra special. There is an element of tradition with the afternoon tea as it serves sweet and savoury treats. But there is a modern twist on everything which makes this a more unique option to consider. For example lemon curd with poppy seed scones and a curried chicken quiche.   • Anything special to mention: The table is booked for 2 hours. Booking is required which can be done easily on their website. 

Delicate finger food with a touch of elegance. From delicious sandwiches on freshly baked bread to decadent macarons made by their pastry chefs. Afternoon tea at Rowhill Grange is the ultimate quintessentially British experience. Reserve your table for up to 2 hours and take afternoon tea at your leisure. They also offer a special Dockland Gin afternoon tea experience (£54 per person comes with three cocktails) . The beautiful setting of 12 acres of woodland and stunning lakes makes the Inn on the Lake the perfect destination for afternoon tea all year round. This is a lovely place to enjoy afternoon tea. You can choose a wonderful vegan option as well as a traditional afternoon tea. There are upgrades available where you can enjoy a glass of bubbles. Start with delicate finger sandwiches, hand prepared with only the finest, high quality and seasonal ingredients, followed by traditional warm scones, freshly baked and served with clotted cream and a choice of preserves. All before indulging in a selection of beautiful miniature homemade cakes, crafted by their expert Pastry Chefs. Tiny Tims Tearoom – Canterbury

  • Where: 34 St Margaret’s Street, Canterbury, CT1 2TG
  • Cost: Prices from £22.95, they also offer a children’s afternoon tea for £9.95 each
  • Anything special to mention: Offers several different menu options including a savoury afternoon tea with welsh rarebit and a cheese scone served with Kentish Beer as a Gentleman’s afternoon tea.

As well as the afternoon tea menu there is also the option for High Tea. Which offers crumpets with a poached egg. Their traditional tea menu includes freshly prepared finger sandwiches filled with cream cheese and cucumber, coronation chicken and egg mayonnaise. The tearooms are chandelier-lit although there is also outside seating for the warmer weather. Tiny Tims Tearoom focuses on using local ingredients and local producers. Hever Castle – Edenbridge

  • Where: Hever Rd, Hever, Edenbridge TN8 7NG
  • Cost: Adults are £30.60 and children are £15.30. Like many other historic house you do need to also buy admission.
  • Anything special to mention: Afternoon tea only operates on selected dates. If you want to enjoy a champagne tea at this perfect place then you need to plan and book in advance via their website.

Afternoon tea is taken in the Anne Boleyn Wing. Sittings run from 1 pm through to 3.30 pm and will last around an hour and a half. You can select the time when booking. As well as finger sandwiches and scones. Expect a sausage roll and fruit tart. One of the biggest benefits of visiting Hever Castle for afternoon tea is enjoying the stunning surroundings of a stately home. The Tulip Tree – Chiddingstone

  • Where: Hever Rd, Hever, Edenbridge TN8 7NG
  • Cost: £19.95 per person or £23.95 if you would like to add Prosecco. They also have a children’s menu for £10 which comes with hot chocolate.
  • Anything special to mention: They need at least 24 hours’ notice to provide afternoon tea. Booking can be made via the website or over the phone.

Open every day and located in a converted coach house it makes an excellent choice of locations. Since it also has a beautiful courtyard for the Summer months or a roasting warm log fire (log burner) for the colder months. As well as afternoon tea they also sell a wide range of different hot drinks and a selection of cakes. If you are not looking for the full experience. Whitstable Castle Gardens – Whitstable

  • Where: Tower Hill, Whitstable, Kent CT5 2BW
  • Cost: £26 per person with an additional £6 if you would like to add Prosecco.
  • Anything special to mention: They need at least 24 hours’ notice to provide afternoon tea. Booking can be made over the phone and requires a £10 deposit per person (non-refundable). Free parking is located within the castle grounds.

Located within easy walking distance of the centre of Whitstable you can look out over beautiful gardens. While the children play in the play park also located within the public gardens. Having visited the castle gardens it is a lovely location and very peaceful. The menu is available online but includes traditional scones and savoury bites such as mini cheese and chutney quiche. Port Lympne – Hythe

  • Where: Aldington Rd, Lympne, Hythe CT21 4LR
  • Cost: From £45 per person. You can also add a glass of Prosecco for £7 or Champagne for £12
  • Anything special to mention: Afternoon tea is served between 12.30 pm and 2.30 pm daily and needs to be booked in advance which can be done via their website.

Enjoy a classic or sparkling afternoon tea at the historic Port Lympne Hotel or on the Western Terrace at the heart of Port Lympne Reserve in Kent. You’ll be taking tea in the same surroundings in the Port Lympne mansion as Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin and many other famous former guests in the historic mansion house. Access to the house and 14 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens is included in your afternoon tea experience. I also really like that they offer discounted tickets to the reserve at £6 per person. Afternoon tea vouchers are also available.
