DIY Sensory Stacking Rings – I love making DIY toys for Monkey, I’m working on a pizza set at the moment as he’s just getting in to role play. It’s taking quite a bit longer than I thought it would!! In the meantime I want to share something I put together when he was around 6 months old. I was reminded about it the other day when I found Monkey had retrieved it out if the loft box. He was sitting in the middle of the bedroom with hoops strewn all over, counting them back onto the holder.
It came about as a natural progression from the treasure baskets, as some of the items in his treasure basket lent themselves to this idea. I brought a large wooden toilet roll holder from EBay and started collecting.
Some of the items I made:
- Felt Ball Ring – sewn together
- Polystyrene Hoop which I wound wool round
- Wooden Bead Bracelet- threaded onto elastic
- Shammy Leather – cut into roughly one inch squares and sewn together
Other items I brought and found around the house:
- Napkin Ring
- Wooden and metal bangles from a charity shop
- The inside of a Sellotape roll
- Stone Ring
- Wicker Hoop
- Hair Scrunchie
- Dog Toy
- Round Brush
- Kilner Jar Seals
- Flower Wooden Craft Photo Frames with the plastic removed
Its great when they are small for hand and eye coordination and as they get older sorting by size.

This a lovely idea! So much nicer than bought stacking rings! I love treasure baskets too, but this is great for when they get a bit older and need more to hold their attention. I love it! 🙂 x

Such a lovely idea to make stacking rings. I’ve never made any toys for little man, apart from shakers and drums. I will keep those in mind when we have another baby x

I think that this is an utterly fantastic idea, I am going to try it with my tiny human tomorrow. I have shared this on Facebook as I think a lot of parents will see this as a great sensory way to play with their kids – that involves no mess!

That’s a great idea, we had some stacking rings when the girls were little, my favourite was a colourful wooden one. This is so much better though because you can change and swap things around and keep it constantly entertaining!
What a creative idea, I was always thought that stacking rings were the coolest things ever when I was younger. Some things never change!

Oh my goodness, these are fabulous. They’re the type of thing you’d see on easy for about £50! I will definitely be creating (nowhere near as good I’m sure) my own for P as we’re getting him into sensory play at the moment.

What a great idea for home sensory play, and so cleverly made too! We’ve just started baby sensory classes again with the littlest one and I’ve been reminded of how easy and wonderful it is to make your own sensory toys for the little ones and this is a great example!
