Filotomatix – a guide at Parc Asterix

Like many theme parks, Parc Asterix offers a way to reduce ride waiting time. When we visited Parc Asterix we had a Gold Filotomatix pass. It took us a little while to get the gist of how they worked and what to do with them. So I thought I would write this blog post to help others and also to avoid the mistakes we made the first time we used it.

As he tries to save his village from Roman occupation. The French comic book series Asterix is extremely popular in France, but even if you have not heard of them before. This will not detract from visiting the largest theme park in France. And you can learn all about the characters while in the park. There are 42 attractions which are spread over seven different worlds. Including the Roman Empire, Ancient Greece and Egypt which adds to the unique experience.

What is a Filotomatix

It is essentially like the old Disneyland fast pass and depending on which one you select it will allow you to jump the queue to the ride. The introduction of Filotomatix allows you to reduce the waiting times of your favorite attractions. There could still be some queuing associated depending on the ride and its popularity. But it will be greatly reduced. There is no way we would have been able to try out as many of the rides as we did without it. The contactless ride reservation I think it definitely added to the enjoyment of your day. 

What are the types and how much does it cost

The price varies depending on the type of Filotomatix or you selected and the impact it has on wait times. There are five different ones to choose from and they are easy to purchase. You can either do it in advance online or there are QR codes all over the parc which will take you to the relevant web pages. The five different ones are:

• Unity (green) – this gives you access to the attraction of your choice without waiting. Depending on the attraction it costs between 6€ and 8€ per ride and you access the physical queues near the front of the line.
• Bronze (red) – is one of the virtual queuing solutions. this gives you access to a virtual queue so that you can book your time slot for a ride without needing to wait in the physical queue. It is a new virtual queuing program where you get a ping when your turn is ready. This helps to aid guest flow and is based on accesso’s virtual queuing technology. This costs 10€
• Silver – the waiting time to access the rides is halved (physical queue lines) and this costs 29€
• Gold – this gives you access to each attraction once without needing to wait and costs 45€
• Unlimited (purple) accès illimité – this gives you access to each attraction as many times as you would like without waiting and this costs 95€ for a filotomatix illimité

How do you use it

As our pass was booked in advance we received an email on the day of our visit asking me to register my pass. You will need to be able to have access to a smartphone to be able to use the pass during your visit. As part of the activation process, you will set up an account on the park’s app. This allows access to the pass and also gives you the opportunity to make further purchases and gives you access to a new map of the park.

Once you have done this then you will see a screen with each ride that you can use a Filotomatix on. It will tell you in the top right-hand side of each ride how many you have left for each ride. To use it you click on the ride or attraction and select the number you want. As it is possible to have all your groups passes on one account. Then it will give you a count down saying how long you have until you can access the Filotomatix pass. This varied from 10 seconds to 30 seconds depending on the ride and the of day. Then a QR code will appear. This also has a time slot on it. You will be able to see when you need to use the pass by and there is another counting clock. Normally they are valid for about 15 minutes. 

The first time we used our pass we made the mistake of doing this and then joining a queue for the ride. Rather than waiting to activate it when we were at the Filotomatix desk. For most rides, you do not need to queue to get your QR code scanned but if you do then you run the risk that the pass may have run out before you get it scanned. It is possible to cancel the pass without using it or losing your allocation to that ride. 

The QR code will be scanned by a parc attendant and then you are granted access to the ride. For some of the rides, the Filotomatix entrance is in a different location to the main entrance to the ride. You need to look for the green Filotomatix arrows but they are easy to spot and in most cases follow. 

As I mentioned depending on the ride you may need to queue for a short time. Although some we walked straight on. You also tend to get added to either the front or back of a ride. 

Which rides can you use a Filotomatix Pass on?

Designed to allow you to access your favorite attractions the following rides can be used by all the different types of Filotomatix. All of the rides listed below are excellent rides.

• OzIris (8€)
• Tonnerre de zeus (8€)
• La Trace du Hourra (8€)
• Goudurix (8€)
• Pégase express (8€)
• Rooms et Rapidus (6€)
• Le Grand Splatch (6€)
• Menhir Express (6€)
• L’Oxygenarium (6€)
• Attention Menhir (6€)

These are all the big rides, the most popular attractions and tend to be the ones with the largest queues. In addition, the passes allow you access to the Spectacle shows 10 minutes before so you can get a better location within the stages. When we visited this was not actually happening although you could book them through the website. I think it was because they were not that busy.

There are two exceptions the Discoblex ride can only be used by the Unity Filotomatix This means that even f you have an unlimited Filotomatix you will need to buy a single unity pass for the Discoblex ride. 

There is a new special Filotomatix pass which is a turquoise colour and this allows access to the back two seats of the ride Tonnerre 2 Zeus. The face in the opposite direction so you ride the whole ride backwards. This costs 8€ per person. When we visited these sold out quickly. So if it is likely to be something you want to do, you will need to purchase these early.

Our conclusions

There is no getting away from adding a Filotomatix pass increases the cost but it definitely gives you an improved guest experience. However, we would never have been able to go on all the rides we wanted without one. If you think that you will buy 5 or more Unity passes then it could be worth considering the Gold Filotomatix depending on which rides you would like to try.
