JODYs Tree Trail St. JOhann in the Summer

One of the things I was really impressed with when it came to our 3 night trip to St JOhann was that there are so many free things to do with kids. One of these is JODY’s Tree Trail St JOhann Salzburg. A relatively new highlight to the area the boys loved the experience, with even us parents having a go. Something similar in the UK would have cost around £20 a head at least.

So if you are planning on visiting the area then definitely make sure this is on your must-do list. Both your kids and your pocket will thank you for it.

Where is JODY’s Tree Trail located?

Located in Hahnbaum in St JOhann the best place to park is in the car park next to Waldschwimmbad. You can use Badweg 5 Parkplatz Waldschwimmbad, St Johann im Pongau 5600, address to find it.

The car park is free and when we visited on a sunny afternoon in July there was still plenty of space.

In the car park, you will see at one end there is a giant owl. This is Jody. Head off to the right as you look at her, along a pathway that takes you behind the swimming pool. To reach JODY’s Tree Trail all you need to do is follow the wise owl signs. They are reasonably well-spaced out. You may also see some green signs which say Parcour which will also help you locate the start. It is around a ten-minute walk through the woods to the first tree trail.

Here you will be introduced to Joey who is a cheeky squirrel who is Jody’s friend.

What to expect

Unlike the UK there is no need for a harness or hard hat to enjoy the tree trail which is suspended amongst the pine trees. One of Austria’s deciduous tree. Each station and balancing apparatus is surrounded by wire netting, meaning that you are completely enclosed. Even if you are approximately 20 metres in the air. Having walked through them myself you feel entirely safe. However, I could have done without the eleven-year-old swinging me. Obviously, he thought this was hilarious.

When we visited there were even toddlers giving it a go so it is suitable for the whole family. However, I would suggest that the minimum age is probably around six for the actual nets depending on confidence. But there are alternatives for smaller kiddies.

The first area which you reach has two suspended walkways. There are also an additional two which you can reach by following the owl signs at the back of the play area. This will take you on another ten-minute walk through the forest. In total, there are thirty stations.

We all really enjoyed our visit. The boys thought it was awesome and were thrilled that they did not need to put on harnesses and could go on the tree trail as much as they liked.

Top Tips for a Visit to JODY’s Tree Trail

It is only a short hiking trail to reach the high ropes course.
This is a free activity so there are no amenities. Bring your own snacks and drinks with you. Drinks in particular are likely to be needed during the summer months. There is also no loo so make sure you go before you leave.
If your child has a fear of heights then you will be pleased to know there is an alternative area contained within JODY’s Tree Trail. Where they can still play, climb and balance but only a foot or so from the ground. It is really nice to see that thought has been given to younger siblings. The boys also really enjoyed this area too.
The signage is in German but easy to interpret.
Allow at least two hours by the time you have walked from the car park to the first and then onto the second and back again. The boys enjoyed going on them multiple times so you could easily spend longer at the tree course.
