Monster Jam Review. Yesterday we went to the London Stadium to see Monster Jam! Harry is particularly keen on the monster trucks which come in all different sizes and designs. And this was the chance for him to see some of his much-loved toys come to life. Monster Jam UK 2022 is a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the monster trucks and has been absent. It was our first time visiting anything like this. So I was intrigued to see how the boys would enjoy it.

Review Monster Jam UK

The spectacle was held in the London Stadium to a new audience. We had tickets in block 110 which meant we were very close to the front and the “””12,000-pound monster trucks”””. This was unexpected but a number of the closer seating areas had been covered over to ensure safety. I was really impressed as it meant that we were a lot closer to the monster trucks than I had anticipated. The set-up of the stadium is such though that you will have a good view from any of the tickets.

The centre had been completely covered in dirt and there had been several large dirt ramps that had been built. Harry was already excited when he saw the diggers and dumper trucks that were on hand to ensure the safe running of the event. The London Stadium is huge and the dirt track took up a lot of it. 

Monster Jam® Pit Party

Prior to the event, there was a pit party which allows you close access to all the different Monster Trucks that are taking part. You can get the chance to gather autographs from your favorite drivers and an insider’s look at the truck lineup. As well as take part in family-friendly activities. The pit party passes tickets cost £12 and it took place for an hour and a half. Pit party tickets could either be brought at the same time as your tickets for Monster Jam UK. Or you could purchase a pit pass on the day. However, you still need a valid ticket for the event. For the complete Monster Jam experience I would recommend buying them at the same time as they were sold out on the day we visited and so we couldn’t make the monster jam party.

The monster trucks UK merchandise 

Of course, Harry in particular was keen to pick up some souvenirs from the merchandise tents. Be prepared to wait as the queues were long. There are no merchandise stalls in the stadium itself which could account for the queues. Expect to pay £20 for a kid’s t-shirt, £10 for a flag or pennant and £30 for a Spinmaster 24-1 scale die-cast truck. They also had monster truck soft toys for £20. They only accepted debit and credit card for payment.

Is Monster Jam™ loud?

One of the other things you can buy in the merchandise tents is ear defenders. They are cute tyre ones and cost £15 a pair. We thankfully brought our own but a lot of parents were in the queue for that reason. Charlie who is ten was okay with the level of noise that the “””12,000-pound machines””” create and would not wear them anyway. Harry at six definitely needed them, especially as he is not a fan of loud noises anyway. But there were other children who were visibly upset by the level of noise. So our top tip is to bring or buy ear defenders. The show itself is suitable for families of all ages.

How long does Monster Jam Last?

Monster Jam UK lasts around two hours. It is split up into two distinct sessions full of racing competitions, with a break and some trail bikes in between. First of all the massive trucks made quite an entrance whizzing around the track, there were eight in total. Including The legendary Grave Digger®, mighty Megalodon®, Blue Thunder, Monster Mutt, El Toro Loco, Scooby Do, Max-D and Earth Shaker. It was nice to see that a couple of the monster jam drivers were female athletes. The world-class athletes need both physical strength and mental stamina to complete the various stunt challenges and outdoor racing.

The first part

The first session was a head-to-head time trial of intense competitions of speed. Each of the monster trucks paired up into Monster Jam teams and took turns to run the dirt track. With the winners from each of the wide-open competitions of speed go into head-to-head battles to see who would be the ultimate winner.

The next challenge was the skill challenge. A list came up on one of the large TV screens of some of the crazy skills the trucks could do. They each took turns to show off. With some very impressive moves including some vertical two-wheel skills. Of course, it would not be Monster Jam without a few truck casualties! The audience was given the chance to vote on each skill challenge and fierce head-to-head battles. By voting online via a website – there is free wifi in the stadium which really adds to the interactive experience. You can mark each out of 10 and then the combined scores across the audience determine the leaderboard. The boys really enjoyed voting in the event championship.

The second part

45 minutes in there was an intermission before some trial bikes came out with some live motorsports action. I have never seen people fly through the air quite as high as the breathtaking freestyle motocross exhibitions! It was a useful distraction while a number of the trucks had their axles put back together. Before they came out and had free reign on the freestyle competitions.

Again each truck took its turn to wow the crowd, I think the freestyle run was my favourite part it definitely has us on the edge of our seats. They were really impressive the boys especially enjoyed it when they did their amazing tricks. Especially if they ended up on their side. By the end of the session, only two trucks were still standing. The boys like the rest of the stadium voted for their favourites in the prestigious Monster Jam world finals. The winner of Monster Jam UK was … Blue Thunder.

Conclusions – Monster Jam Review

We had a fantastic time watching the monster trucks at Monster Jam UK it is such a unique experience. A brilliant family day out with lots of full-throttle family fun. We are keenly awaiting news of their next appearance as the children are very excited to see them again and this incredible high-octane experience.
