World of Jumanji – Chessington World of Adventures what to expect

We visited World of Jumanji at Chessington World of Adventures today for the press launch of a new ride at Chessington. Giving us a first look before the land opens to the public on the May 15th. Although it wasn’t just one new ride. It was three and a whole new world. One which is completely unique as it makes Chessington World of Adventures the home to the world’s only Jumanji rollercoaster!

But although the Mandrill Mayhem is the main attraction there is a lot more to World of Jumanji than this untameable ride. The three new rides are based on the iconic Jumanji board game from the film starring Robin Williams.

The new themed land brings the first new rollercoaster to Chessington World of Adventures for over nineteen years. Dragon’s Fury was the last one to be built in 2004. We arrived as it was being opened by the CEO of Merlin Entertainments. If you want to see our whole experience I have created a Chessington highlight over on Instagram. Where is the World of Jumanji Chessington located?

The new land – World of Jumanji is located by the explorer entrance to the theme park. This is the entrance used by those staying at the Chessington World of Adventures resort. In fact, there are some wonderful new Jumanji rooms in the Chessington Safari Hotel. Ideal if you would like to extend your day with an overnight stay in new Jumanji-themed bedrooms. The uniquely themed room sleeps two adults and two children.

If you are unfamiliar with the theme park then the entrance is opposite the well-known Dragon Fury rollercoaster. The maps in the park have been updated. Alternatively, you can download the Chessington app which will route you any of the rides. As well as let you know the queuing times for all the rides in the whole world of adventures.

What rides will you see at  World of Jumanji

Although there has been a lot of hype about the amazing, world’s first Jumanji roller coaster. There are three new rides in the new Jumanji land. All new rides at Chessington have a minimum height requirement of 120cm. 

Madrill Mayhem Rollercoaster

“Get swept up in the long arms of a Mandrill. As the horde whisks brave explorers around the sites of the world of Jumanji all while dodging the hazards of the jungle”

The new ride at Chessington! We went on the B&M wing coaster seven times during our visit. It was a huge hit with the boys and with the adults too. The yellow seats are in the long arms of the terrifying monkey. Harry thought they looked a little like bananas. It is unusual to find a truly different coaster and we felt that the Mandrill Mayhem rollercoaster was exactly this. 

It has something for everyone. Fast acceleration, a drop to get it to full speed, runs backwards and a vertical corkscrew. Not to mention the upside down as you go past the entrance. Although moving you feel as though you are suspended indefinitely its unnerving but so much fun.

The entrance to the ride is via the foot of the jaguar shrine. Which is the focal point of the world. The metal coaster wraps itself around the tall jaguar shrine. There are 28 seats on the coaster, as you enter you stand on a number. There are seven rows. Number seven is at the back with seats facing backwards. Row one is at the front. The queue is split to fill each side of the rollercoaster. This was the first time Harry has been on a backward-facing coaster. He decided at age seven his favourite was in the middle! As well as the coaster there are also a couple of flat rides.

Ostrich Stampede

“Swerve a herd of stampeding Ostriches in the dunes. Its going to be a bumpy ride.”

As well as the coaster there are two other new rides at Chessington. As you enter the new world of Jumanji you will see to the right this fun ride. Jump on board the whirlwind ride, where you go round and round jumping up and down just as an Ostrich would do. Seats are in sets of three and it is a surprisingly fun ride that is incredibly bouncy. Harry found it a lot of fun. 

Mamba Strike

“Dodge the fangs of the black mamba! Jump on and hold on tight, there’s not a moment to lose.”

This was Harry’s favourite new ride at Chessington out of the three and ideal for brave adventurers that need to warm up on their first adventure before attempting the Mandrill Mayhem. A front-facing ride that goes around in circles. It has a lot of movement and a surprising kick.

Food options at the World of Jumanji

There is one place to get some themed food within the new Jumanji World. This is located next to Ostrich Stampede. Here you can get both hot and cold drinks. As well as main meals including a foot-long hot dog for £13.50 and the boy’s favourite a giant turkey leg for £14. They also offer a vegan hot dog option. I was impressed with the food it did taste really good.

Other things to see and do

As well as the amazing new ride at Chessington. There is a selection of games to tempt you to spend money to win some large cats and wild animals soft toys. Which the boys were interested in. As well as a fantastic gift shop on the exit of Mandrill Mayhem and next to where you can collect a photo on the rollercoaster. And spend your pennies on characters from the Jumanji franchise and children’s books. Along with notebooks, drinking bottles, t-shirts and various other souvenirs. 

In the centre of the world there is a maze of pathways. These lead to various things to climb on. Which is a nice touch as it can keep younger children or those not yet 120cm tall entertained. While an older sibling enjoys the ride. There are also several challenges that are dotted around encouraging you to follow in the footsteps of Dr Bravestone. There is also a little bit of seating and a small area to host meets and greets or themed music.

We really did have one of our wildest adventures and would  definitely recommend a visit to the World of Jamanji.
