Secondary infertility and breathe ilo fertility tracker

AD Sponsored – I have been compensated for my time and given a breathe ilo fertility tracker discount code to offer to my readers

It is amazing when you start to talk to other mums just how many people struggle to fall pregnant. Over the years I have known many people that have had trouble. But when you are going through it, it can feel like you are totally alone. Especially if all those around you are seeming to be falling pregnant at a drop of a hat. I remember a time when I would scowl unintentionally at anyone in the street who had a baby bump. It felt so unfair that we just could not have that second child we both longed for.  When seemingly everyone else was pregnant.

Having fallen pregnant with Charlie so quickly I had assumed that the same would happen the second time around. Only it didn’t. In fact, it took us over 12 months and three miscarriages to finally have a viable pregnancy.  And those next nine months were the longest of my life! Now it turns out for us that I have a blood clotting issue which is why we struggled so much the second time around. Why that did not affect my first pregnancy is anyone guess.  But it took us a long time to get that diagnosis and that didn’t stop the ups and downs of trying. Or the heartache every month when it didn’t happen.

I think it’s only really something you can understand if you have been through it. Trying to work out each month when your fertile window is.  Imagining signs that your body is giving you that aren’t really there. Reading every article you can find to work out what you should be eating and which supplements you should take. Anything to improve your chances. It use to occupy my every thought. How it didn’t drive me slightly crackers I have no idea, although my husband would probably suggest it did.

breathe ilo fertility tracker – the first fertility breath test

With Harry just turning five we do not plan to have any more children. However, if we did and would most likely have to go through the same journey again.  Only this time around I would most definitely look to new technology to help us. breath ilo is the worlds first fertility breath test.  It can tell you in real-time when your right time is for conceiving.

As you go through your menstrual cycle the CO2 in your breath changes. Developed in Austria breathe ilo measures these levels of CO2  in your breath and then transmits this to the breathe ilo smart app on your phone.  By measuring the CO2 breathe ilo can help you to predict the time of ovulation as CO2 is higher in the first phase of your cycle. One of the huge benefits of this is that it means that breathe ilo can determine ovulation in advance.

How does breathe ilo work?

Well if we understand the science bit and why it works. How do you actually use breathe ilo? It is so simple.  In the box, you get everything you need to get started. There is a breathe ilo device itself along with a mouthpiece and nose clip. It also comes with a USB charging cable.

Once charged you need to download the free breathe ilo app to your smartphone, it is available on both apple and android devices. After you have downloaded the app you need to create an account and register your device, make sure you have Bluetooth switched on.  Once the device is registered you can then start to track your cycle.

To do this you need to add the mouthpiece to the device, click on start measurement in the app. Put on your nose clip, sit down and breathe in and out calmly into the mouthpiece. The app will count down for a minute and then log your reading.  Another benefit of using breathe ilo is that it does not need to be done first thing in the morning. You can take your measurements at any point during the day. Meaning that if you forget to do it the first thing it doesn’t matter. Having used pee sticks myself in the past where you have to do it first thing. This is a huge benefit as I would often forget having to get Charlie out of the house to the nursery or catch an early train into London for work. At a busy time of day, I didn’t need an added thing on my to-do list. breathe ilo solves that.

The breathe ilo fertility tracker app

As well as tracking your CO2 reading there is a lot of other information which you can log.  Each day you can add in period symptoms or other cycle symptoms such as flow, abdominal pains, breast pains, mucus and how you are feeling. There is also the option to log other things such as if you have been ill or have drunk alcohol and to log when you have had sex, unprotected or otherwise.

The app gives you a calendar so you can see when your periods and your fertile window are well into the future. It even lets you compare your cycle to previous ones.  There is also a knowledge base that gives you lots of information about conception & pregnancy, female health, cycle & fertility.

But I am not trying to get pregnant?

Even though the focus of this post has predominately been about using breathe ilo to help identify when you are most likely to fall pregnant. There are other benefits to tracking your cycle.

  • The health of your cycle also tells you a lot about your own health. By knowing your cycle well  you can immediately notice when something is wrong
  • You will  always know when to expect your period and never be taken by surprise again
  • Tracking your cycle can also help you sleep better. An increase in temperature can lead to less REM sleep so you may feel like you are getting less sleep during this time in your cycle
  • Your body needs different nutrients at different stages of your cycle, so you can make sure you are giving it what it needs at the right time.
  • Adapt your exercise plan around your cycle, as there times during your monthly cycle where athletic performance will vary. Knowing your cycle means you can adapt your exercise routine around it.
  • It allows you to alter your skincare regime and also your productivity and to-do list. As both are also affected by your monthly cycle.
