May half term events in Surrey. May half term in Surrey signals the beginning of the Summer for us. It is by far our favourite school holidays. When we are not away we are always on the hunt for fun things to get up to for half term fun. We are lucky that there are so many different activities over May half term in Surrey and Sussex. With only a few days it can be difficult to decide what to do first since there are lots of events, but we do have a long weekend to look forward to. This is why I have pulled together a list of the best May half-term activities in Surrey for 2023.

If you live in Surrey and you are looking for things to do over the May half term then we have you covered. When reading through if there are half-term activities locally or May half term events in Surrey that I have not included here that you know of. And think should be included then please mention them in the comments below and I will get them added.

Where possible I have included prices and details correct as of April 2023. However, some places may not have released all the information. So make sure you check the individual website before attending these brilliant May half term activities in Surrey. 

Bocketts Farm – Superheroes Week

• What – There is so much going on at Brockets Farm as well as all the usual fun of soft play, small animal encounters, and outdoor play areas. They are running a special Superheros week with themed activities, including a Superhero Academy, craft corner and bubble disco. Kids will get the opportunity to meet Spider-man and the Ice Queen. You can meet the bird of prey, pan for gold, enjoy a game of water wats and take a tractor and trailer ride. Face painters will be on hand to transform little ones into their favourite characters. Read more.

• Where – Young Street, Fetcham, Leatherhead, Surrey, KT22 9BS.
• How much – You can book tickets online in advance, places are limited so this is recommended. Adults cost £16 each, children aged 3-17 years cost £17.50, and two-year-olds are slightly reduced at £15.50 each with free entrance for children under 2 years. 

Chessington World of Adventures – MARDI GRRRA!

• What – Chessington World of Adventures is running a special event for May half term events in Surrey. A Mardi Grrra! Back for another year of fantastic celebrations after its success the first time! Join us as we hit the streets this summer at Chessington’s wildest street party! Included in your theme park and zoo ticket, enjoy carnival celebrations and spectacular shows with live music. Plus our roaring rides and animals too! It’s the family-fun street carnival where your little party animals can experience the buzz of the world-famous Mardi Gras festival, with a unique Chessington twist. There is something at MARDI GRRRA! for all ages – from your toddler to your teen – with wonderful entertainment that will really get you in the groove.  Read more.

Hampton Court Palace – Horrible Histories LIVE on stage

• What – BARMY BRITAIN is back, full of new characters and rude new rulers from Britain’s barmy past! Will you be conquered by William? Will you sink or swim with King Henry I? Go house hunting with Henry VIII! Join the gorgeous Georgians as they take over England! Break into Buckingham Palace and hide from the Queen Victoria! It’s history of Britain with the nasty bits left in! For unique experiences, this May half term in Surrey. You can also visit the Great Hall, fantastic sports hall and Haunted Gallery in the State Apartments before running wild in the Magic Garden. Visit the oldest surviving hedge maze in the palace gardens. Read more. 
• When – Horrible Histories Live on Stage runs from Saturday 27th May to Saturday 3rd June. There are two shows a day at 12 pm and 3 pm. Both performances on Wednesday 31 May will be British Sign Language interpreted.
• Where – Hampton Ct Way, Molesey, East Molesey KT8 9AU.
• How much – Entrance to the show does not include entrance to the palace tickets need to be booked in advance £15 for adults and £9 for children. East Front at Hampton Court Palace. All performances are open-air and seated directly on grass. 
• Tickets for the palace also need to be booked in advance, you can buy tickets online with or without a donation. An adult ticket is £26.10 or £28.80 with a donation, children £13/£14.30 with under 5s being free. A family ticket of two adults and up to three children is £71.70/£78.90.

Painshill Park – Bugs & Butterflies Trail 

• What – This May half term in Surrey head to Painshill Park to enjoy the bugs and butterflies trail. Read more.  They also have an outdoor theatre show – Robin Hood adapted by Oliver Gray suitable for children over the age of 5.  Drinks will be available during the show but not food. However, you can bring a picnic.
• When – The trail is running from the 27th of May until June the 25th. Opening hours are 10 am to 4pm. Robin Hood is showing on the 3rd of June from 5.30pm to 8.20pm.
• Where – Painshill, Cobham, Surrey, KT11 1JE
• How much – Tickets for Painshill should be booked in advance where possible to benefit from a 20% discount. Tickets online cost £10 for an adult and £5.00 for a child aged 5-16 with gift aid. Under 5s are free. The trail is included with entrance. Tickets for Robin Hood cost £16 per adult and £12 per child. 

Polesdon Lacey National Trust – Mini Golf

• What – Something very different from the National Trust this May half term in Surrey. 100 years ago, in 1923 Bertie and Elizabeth (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth) began their honeymoon at Polesden Lacey and enjoyed a game of golf in the gardens. You can retrace their steps at a pop-up 9-hole mini golf course. Make sure to have your own photo taken alongside the Royal couple as you play your way around the gardens and take part in special royal crafts. Read more.
• When – Open throughout half term hourly slots between 10 am to 4 pm although the car park opens at 7.30 am.
• Where – Great Bookham, near Dorking, Surrey, RH5 6BD
• How much – Entrance is free for National Trust members, prices without gift aid are £15 for an adult, £7.50 for a child and £37.50 for a family or £22.50 with one adult.  Mini golf costs £3 per player, pre-booking online recommend. Please note that this does not include entrance to the property which is an additional charge on arrival for non-members. You can start your game any time within your booked hour slot.

RHS Wisley – Sow Awesome

• What – Visit RHS Garden Wisley this half term and follow the self-directed family trail around the garden and discover the wide range of fruit and vegetables that we grow along the way. Be inspired by what you see and find out how you can grow your own at home. Family trail booklet provided. They are also running drop-in craft and grow sessions in the Core Learning Centre suitable for ages 2 and up. There are various other things that are running. The most notable is a theatre show – The Enormous Turnip recommended for children aged 3 to 8 you can book your tickets in advance via the website – tickets are included in the entrance costs. Read more
• When – Runs throughout half term 10 am to 6 pm, craft drop-in sessions until 4 pm. The theatre show is running on the 1st and 2nd of June 10.30-11.30 am, 12-1pm and 1-2pm.
• Where – RHS Garden Wisley, Wisley Lane, Woking, Surrey, GU23 6QB
• How much – There are no additional charges for the activities. If you are a member of the RHS then entrance is free. If not normal entrance fees apply, an adult ticket with gift aid costs £17.55 and without gift aid, it is £15.95. Children are £8.75/£7.95. A family ticket for two adults and two children costs £45.05/£40.95. These are online ticket prices which are cheaper than those at the door.

Hatchlands Park National Trust – Minibeast Hunt

• What – Visit Hatchlands Park during May half term and pick up a magnifying glass and free spotter sheet from reception and head out into the parkland to see how many bugs you can find. The boys love minibeast hunting a great activity for this half term holidays. There’s also some not-quite-so-mini beasts for you to spot too! As well as a natural play area to enjoy. Read more.
• When – Open throughout half term 10 am to 4 pm 
• Where – East Clandon, Guildford, Surrey, GU4 7RT
• How much – Entrance is free for National Trust members, prices without gift aid are £11 for an adult, £5.50 for a child and £27.50 for a family or £16.50 with one adult. 

Claremont Landscape Garden National Trust – Artsy Craftsy

• What – Explore the garden with an artistic eye on our Artsy Craftsy adventure. Can you spot the equipment you might need, the colours on your palette and inspirational views. Then get creative and create your own pieces of art. Read more. 
• When – The free trail will run 10 am – 3 pm daily throughout the May half term in Surrey.
• Where – Portsmouth Road, Esher, Surrey, KT10 9JG.
• How much – Entrance is free for National Trust members, prices without gift aid are £11 for an adult, £5.50 for a child and £27.50 for a family or £16.50 with one adult.

Denbies Estate – The Brick People & Denbies Nature Train Ride 

• What – If you have a lego mad little one then these holiday clubs will be right up their street. Tickets give the holder access to the brick building, LEGO and LEGO DUPLO play areas, and building a LEGO mosaic. Sessions last for an hour. You do need to book this fun workshop in advance which can be done online. Enjoy a gentle Nature Train Ride around the vineyard this Spring with Denbies Woodland friends including free tea and coffee for the adults in the conservatory restaurant. Read more. 
• When – Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th of May between 10 am and 3.30 pm for the Brick People. The train is running From the 29th of May to the 2nd of June. 
• Where – London Rd, Dorking RH5 6AA
• How much – Adults and children aged 6 year olds and over cost £3.75 with under 5s being free. The train costs £5.50 for an adult and £9.50 for children. 

Winkworth Arboretum – Become a Nature Detective 

• What – This May half term, discover the arboretum through the mini beast trail. Enjoy nature and explore the hidden world of the insects that call Winkworth home. The trail costs £2 and includes a prize. Read more. 
• When – Over half term, running from the 27th May to the 4th June,  from 10 am with last entry at 4 pm and car park gates locked promptly at 4 pm. 
• Where – Hascombe Road, Godalming, Surrey, GU8 4AD
• How much – Free for National Trust members. Alternatively, adults cost £12.10 with gift aid or £11 without. Children from 5 years and over are £6.10/£5.50 and a family ticket is £30.30/£27.50.

Gatton Park – Fairytale Treasure Hunt

• What – Gatton Park is running a range of activities over May half term events in Surrey throughout the week of half term aimed mainly at younger children. These include a fairytale treasure hunt in the magical grounds of Gatton Park covering well-known fairy tales. A picnic in the park where you can bring your own tasty treats and pond dipping. As well as the usual Forest school for 2-7-year-olds to make woodland crafts and enjoy a snack around the fire. Two Trails and Tales sessions based around The Hungry Caterpillar to include a craft activity aimed at children aged 2-4.  Read more
• When – Fairytale Treasure Hunt runs on the 29th of May, and Pond Dipping on the 31st of May from 10 am to 11.30 am. Forest Fun runs on the 1st of June am session from 10 am to 12 pm and the pm session from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm. Trails and Tales runs on runs from 10 am to 11.30 and the pm session is from 1.30 pm to 3 pm. Picnic in the park 12 pm to 5 pm.
• Where – Gatton Park, Reigate, Surrey, RH2 0TW
• How much – Places need to be booked in advance for all sessions via the booking system on the website. The fairytale treasure hunt costs £3 for a child and £6 for an adult. Pond dipping £8.50.  Forest Fun costs £10 per child. The Trails and Tales cost £8 per child. Picnic in the park £6.

Brooklands Museum – Marvellous Inventions

• What – This May Half Term in Surrey discover marvellous inventions at Brooklands Museum where there is something for the whole family. Will include costume characters, and a family events workshop to learn about how design and simulation work. Uncover the marvellous inventions of Brooklands with a new discovery trail that takes you on a journey through the historic site.  The family trails are free and can be collected at admissions when you arrive or from Visitor Information in the Clubhouse. No need to pre-book. There are also vintage car rides and  Concorde Supersonic Walkthroughs which should be booked in advance. Read more. 
• When – May 27th to June 4th 10 am-5 pm. The Concorde Supersonic Walkthroughs will be running at 10.25 am 10.45 am and 11.05 am Monday to Friday.
• Where – Brooklands Museum, Brooklands Road, Weybridge, KT13 0SL
• How much – There is a £3 additional charger per person for the Concorde Supersonic Walkthroughs. Booking tickets online in advance is cheaper adults cost £22.95 or £24.20 on the day. A child is £12.55 or £13.20 with under 5s going free. A family ticket for 2 adults and up to 3 children costs £59.95 or £63.25. A family ticket with one adult costs £36.95 or £39.05.

The London Bus Museum 

• What – Have you ever wondered what happened to all those wonderful old buses that ran in London and which you only now see in old films and books? While thousands went to the scrap yard at the end of their working lives, some have found their way into preservation as living, moving museum pieces at London Bus Museum. Here you will discover the largest collection of working historic London buses in the world, a priceless heritage representing more than 150 years of public transport evolution in the capital. A perfect place for vehicle-mad kids and family days out. Read more.
• When – Open Mondays 11 am to 4 pm and other days 10 am to 4 pm. The last entry to the London Bus Museum is 3.45 pm. Bus rides run at weekends and every day during the Surrey school holidays. 
• Where – Part of Brooklands Museum
• How much – Entrance to the Brooklands Museum allows entrance to the London Bus Museum.

British Wildlife Centre

• What – There are keeper talks throughout the day with them taking place every half an hour and lasting about 15 minutes. These include red squirrel enclosure, foxes, Scottish wildcats, red deer, polecats, owl displays and otters. As well as these animals there lots of animals others to see during your visit appealing to kids of all ages. Read more. 
• When – Normally only open during the weekends. The British Wildlife Centre will be open during the half-term week as well from 10 am to 4 pm. Please note the play area is closed when it is wet and so will most likely not be in operation during February half term. 
• Where – British Wildlife Centre, Eastbourne Road, Newchapel, Lingfield, Surrey RH7 6LF
• How much – If you book tickets in advance online you will save £1 a ticket. Adults cost £13 a ticket and a child £7.

Watts Gallery – Family Days

• What – There are lots of activities and different May half term events in Surrey at Watts Gallery ideal for a rainy day. This half term they are running some new Family Days, a botanical drawing workshop for teenagers with artist Jane Alexander, and the ever-popular Watts Tots workshop, all celebrating George and Mary’s love of nature! Read more. 
• When – Family workshops and days are running on Sunday 28th and 30th of May, Creatives Workshop on the 31st of May and Watts Tots 2nd of June
• Where – Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village, Down Lane, Compton, Surrey, GU3 1DQ
• How much – Watts Tots costs £5 and needs to be booked in advance. Watts Creatives costs £25 and also needs to be booked in advance. The other activities are included in the ticket price. Admission costs adults £13.50 and those under 18s are free. English Heritage members receive a discount of £10.80.

The Lightbox Woking

• What – The Lightbox is an award-winning charitable arts and heritage organisation with a social purpose to improve the well-being and quality of life of its community. They are running a series of school holiday activities throughout May half term activities in Surrey. Visit to try a new thing this May half term. Read more.
• When – There are several different workshop activities on throughout the May half term. These need to be booked in advance. This can be done online via their website. 
• Where – Animal Art 5-10 year olds 30th May at 1.30pm, Animal Finger Puppets 31st of May at 1.30 pm, Pen Portraits in Pastels 11-16 year olds 1st June at 1.30pm
• How much – Animal Art costs £9.50 per child with the accompanying adults free. Animal Finger Puppets is a free drop in session although there is a suggested donation of £5.  Pen Portraits in Pastels costs £20 per young person.

Godstone Farm – Woodland Spirit Trail

• What –  This May half term it is all about getting back in touch with nature! May half term events in Surrey include a woodland spirit trail, a rainbow colour walk and discovering the wonder of nature origami. There will be character meet and greets and some fabulous nature-inspired crafts too. With mud sculpturing and go barefoot for our sensory challenge to help you feel even closer to nature! Of course, on top of all this, you’ve got all the fun of the farm with our friendly animals, farm trail, interactive animal activities, indoor Playbarn, Dinosaur Roar discovery trail and oodles of outdoor play. • When – Runs throughout the May half term – Farm opening times are 9.30 am to 16.45 pm. 
• Where – Tilburstow Hill Road, Godstone, RH9 8LX
• How much – Tickets should be booked online in advance for the best prices. Entrance tickets cost £13.95 for adults and children aged two and over depending on the dates chosen. Children under one cost £7 with babies under one visiting for free. 

Dapdune Whalf National Trust – Wildlife Trail

• What – Follow our trail to learn more about domestic and overseas wildlife and have a go at some wildlife crafts to take home. The RSPB and West Surrey badger group will be popping in during the week. Timed boat trip are also available and need to be booked in advance. Read more.
• When – 29th May to the  2nd June 11 am to 5 pm
• Where – Wharf Road, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 4RR
• How much – Boat trips cost £42 for up to 12 people, or you can pay individually, prices cost £8.40 for adults and £5.20 for children. Tickets need to be brought regardless of whether you are a National Trust member or not. 

Birdworld – Explorer Trail 

• What – Over the May half term Birdworld is running a new explorer trail. Train with their Explorers then head off on your own adventure to test your new-found skills. See how many animals you can spot on the trail and learn eco tips to take home with you. On the 3rd of June there is a special May half term event in Surrey, the Paw Patrol pups will also be making an appearance. Chase & Skye will be making their debut appearance at Birdworld, appearing at intervals throughout the day. Read more. 
• When – The park is open from 10 am to 5 pm throughout half term.
• Where – Birdworld Holt Pound, Farnham, Surrey, GU10 4LD
• How much – Online tickets are from £18.95  for an adult and children aged 3-15 are from £14.95. General admission also allows entrance to the sea life centre which is next door.

Hobbledown – Science Workshops

• What –  One of our top choices, this May half term in Surrey you can meet their zookeepers, learn all about their awesome animals and watch the birds of prey flying demonstrations. With new activities, make science fun with twice-daily Science Workshops. There will be bubbles, rockets, explosions of colour and more. Plus slime-making sessions throughout the day. All are included in your entrance fee.  There are also all the usual fun things to get up to including the play barn and vast selection of outside play areas. An Imaginarium where little ones can engage in some water play before coming face to face with various reptiles. There really is something for everyone. Read more. 
• When – Open throughout half-term from 9 am to 6 pm. 
• Where – Hobbledown, Horton Lane, Horton, KT19 8PT
• How much – you can either book a ticket which costs £17 and gives you a time limit of four hours at the attraction. Or you can book a £22 ticket which does not come with a time limit. Under 2s are free. It is one of the best places we have visited in the South East for a day trip

Surrey History Centre 

• What – Surrey History Centre in Woking collects and preserves the records of Surrey’s past and present, documenting the story of the county and its people from the 12th century to the 21st century. Come along to find out about the history of Surrey transport and make a paper car, rocking boat and plenty more. Ages 2 to 10. Free parking onsite, buggy friendly and baby change facilities. Read more. 
• When – Tuesday the 30th May to 1st June  open 9.30 am to 12.45 pm and then 1.45 pm to 5 pm. 
• Where – Surrey History Centre, 130 Goldsworth Road, Woking, GU21 6ND.
• How much – The drop-in session is free entry.

 

Skywalk – 2 for 1

• What – Skywalk offer two courses suitable for the age of eight and children over 1.3m tall. Climb and Zip through the trees. Barrel crawls, rickety bridges and loads more for exhilarating fun at Skywalk Adventure. Experience both courses over the Sandown Ski slopes and into the woods with some incredible views over Sandown Park Racecourse and London. There is also a cafe onsite for refreshments. Over half term they are offering 2-for-1 tickets when brought online. See their website for more details. Read more. 
• When – Special offer running throughout May half term. Selected dates and available details can be found on the website with availability.  Sessions run from 9.30 am to 8.30 pm.

• How much – Prices start from £30 for an adult and £22 for a child. Family tickets from £90.

Thorpe Park – MARDI GRRRA!

• What – Thorpe Park  is running a special event for May half term events in Surrey.  Experience a taste of New Orleans at springtime Mardi Gras event. Delivering Louisiana vibes, world-class ride, authentic street food and more beads than Mr. T. has gold chains! Turn up the temperature and endure the sizzling speeds of Nemesis Inferno as your legs dangle freely below 750 meters of twisted track! Other May half term activities in Surrey

As well as all the fantastic activities listed above there are some other days out in Surrey that are open over May half term. Although not putting on any specific May half-term activities or events in Surrey. I have included these below.

Priory Farm 

• What – Discoveryland is open all year round and based on 40 acres of beautiful countryside. A family nature trail with surprises around every corner. Venture along the way-marked walk through ancient woodland, green pastures, meadows and around our fishing lakes. Discovery Land changes with the seasons; from cheerful daffodils and summer sunflowers to frosty cobwebs on our spooky Halloween trail, the walk is different every time you visit and so can be enjoyed time and time again. Read more. 
• When – Various dates that need to be booked online in advance. You are given a time slot which is your arrival time. More details on their website. 
• Where – Priory Farm Estate, Sandy Lane, South Nutfield, Redhill, RH1 4EJ
• How much – Entrance to Discovery Land costs £6 + 30p booking fee each for everyone over the age of 2 at the weekends. For weekday tickets this is reduced to £4.30 + 30p booking fee. Tickets do need to be booked in advance via their website. 

Chobham Adventure Park

• What – There is so much to do at the adventure park. Indoor soft play, and outdoor play areas including ziplines and donut slides. Plus an animal barn where you can get up close and personal to all sorts of animals. There is also a cafe on site. Read more. 
• When – During the school holidays Chobham Adventure Park is open from 10 am to 5.30pm 
• Where – Bagshot Road Chobham, Woking GU24 8DB
• How much – Adults cost £9.50, children aged 5-18 cost £14.50, 3-4 years £9.50, 1-2 years £6.50 and under 1s are free.

 

Kew 

• What – There is plenty of things to do at Kew Gardens that we never manage to fit it all in during one trip. With multiple glasses houses to explore, the hive, the children’s garden (needs booking in advance), and the treetop walkway. And there is usually all sorts of exhibitions to visit. With a beautiful new cafe set up for kids it would make a great place to visit this half term. Read more. 
• When – Throughout half term opening times are 10 am to 4 pm with the last entry at 3 pm 
• Where – Kew Gardens car park (TW9 3AF, Ferry Lane, near Brentford Gate.
• How much – Free to members. Tickets can be brought in advance online at a reduced price and with or without a donation. The cheapest tickets are for adults at £15, a child at £5, and a family of four at £37.50. Under 4s are free.

Mercedes Benz World 

• What – With lots to see and do Mercedes Benz World makes a great family day out. There are three floors of displays including F1 cars. There are also other simulators across two floors ranging from Little Racers to GRID an F1 simulator to get the ultimate racing experience. For younger visitors, they can try out car rides of their own. For those aged between 3-5 years old, there is a purpose-built indoor track where they can try out a fleet of electric ride-on cars. There are also a whole host of driving experiences for adults and big kids. Read more.
• When – During school holidays they are open from 10 am to 6 pm each day. 
• Where – Brooklands Drive, Weybridge, Surrey, KT13 OSL
• How much – The racing simulators range from £6 to £20 per race. The electric ride-on cars cost £6 per race, the session time is approximately 15 minutes. 

Airhop Trampoline Park

1. What – Although the weather should be wonderful during May half term in Surrey. Sometimes an inside activity is required. Airhop run different sessions during the day. The open session gives access to over 50 interconnected trampolines that span right across the floor and up the walls on their Main Court. As well as our AR Trampolines, Dodgeball, Dodge Attack, Air Bag and Slam Dunk. AirHop is the perfect place for kids and big kids alike and welcomes people of all ages and abilities to jump through the clouds. Read more. 
2. When – Open throughout half term, sessions can be booked online in advance. Session times from 10am to 5 pm. Evening sessions are also available. 
3. Where – 10 Midleton Industrial Estate Road, Guildford, GU2 8XW
4. How much – Prices vary depending on the length of the session, 60 minutes cost £14.50, 180 minutes for £22. Toddler sessions from £6 and a family pass from £65. They also run special packages which can be found on the website. 

Alice Holt Forest

• What – We absolutely love Alice Holt forest there is so much to do for kids. With a large play area near the cafe. Several different trails each with wooden play equipment. So much forest to explore. Character trails, cycle hire and Go Ape. It is a great place to explore and get out into the fresh air this half term. Read more. 
• When – The car park is open from 8 am to 6 pm and the visitor centre where you can pick up trails etc is open from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. 
• Where – Bucks Horn Oak, Farnham, GU10 4LS
• How much – The only charge to access the play area is parking fees, these vary depending on how long you park for. For school holidays all day, parking costs £12. There is an additional cost for Go Ape and some of the character trails can cost a few pounds for the trail packs.

Guildford Lido

• What – Guildford Lido has open swim sessions running which can be booked online. More information can be found on the leisure centre website. 
• When – Open throughout May half term, bookings can be made online. Opening swimming session run from 10.30 am to 6.30 pm
• Where – Stoke Road, Guildford, GU1 1HB
• How much – Adult swimming tickets cost £7, children aged 3-15 are £5.25 with under 3s free when accompanied by an adult.
