17+ Places To See Bluebells & Bluebell Woods In Sussex

One of my favourite flowers is native bluebells. That means that in late April when bluebell season hits, I can normally be found hunting out the English bluebell. Either at a National Trust property or a Sussex wildlife trust nature reserve where you can normally find plenty this time of year. We are very lucky as we have some lovely Sussex bluebell woods close by where we can find the distinctive bell-shaped flower. However, if you are looking for some beautiful bluebell woods or formal gardens. Then I pulled together a list of 17 places in Sussex to see bluebells that contain interesting walks. Bluebell’s flower between the end of April and late May.  If you are aware of any other locations then please let me know about them in the comments below and I will get them added to this post.

Ebernoe Common

• Where – Ebernoe, Petworth, West Sussex GU28 9LD
• Cost – No Cost
• More Information – This is a beautiful nature reserve that has a blanket of bluebells as they start to flower at the beginning of April. If you are looking for one of the best places to see bluebells in Sussex then this is one of the ones to consider. In these ancient bluebell woods, you can explore and take time to experience the beautiful wildlife, animals, insects, and of course, wild flowers. Part of the Sussex Wildlife Trust

Flatropers Wood

• Where – Bixley Lane, Beckley, Rye, East Sussex, TN31 6TH
• Cost – No Cost
• More Information – A lovely nature reserve also managed by the Sussex wildlife trust and popular amongst dog walkers as well as families, Flatopers Wood is a sea of bluebells throughout April and May. You can follow the different paths through the wooded areas and gaze over at the swathes of bluebells that is across the grounds of the trees. This is an established wood, so the trees are tall. It is a great place to consider a family bluebell woodland walk.

Marline Valley

• Where – St Leonards, Hastings, Saint Leonards-on-sea, East Sussex TN38 9PU
• Cost – No Cost
• More Information – A stunning place to go if you are looking for one of the best Sussex bluebell woods to see the stunning wildflowers in all their glory. There is a glorious stream running through the nature reserve as well as beautiful walks to enjoy that the whole family can get on board. The wooded areas are filled with bluebells that you can see throughout the months of April and May. Definitely, a location to consider.

Selwyns Wood

• Where – Off Fir Grove Rd, Heathfield, East Sussex, TN21 0QL
• Cost – No Cost
• More Information – There is a network of paths that you can explore through this nature reserve and is one of the best places to see bluebells in East Sussex. This woodland trust is a gorgeous location that will give you a chance to explore the woods and witness some of the wildlife that has created habitats there. The bluebells will be flowering in all their glory throughout the Spring months across the woodland floor. A great location for the whole family.

The Mens

• Where – Crimbourne Ln, Billingshurst, West Sussex, RH14 0HR
• Cost – No cost
• More Information – Another great nature reserve where you can enjoy Sussex bluebell woods without entrance costs or fees. A great place to walk and explore the natural beauty, especially when the bluebells are in full force. With wooded areas and meadows, there is plenty to see while you are here. A great location that everyone will enjoy.

Woods Mill

• Where – Wood’s Mill, Henfield, East Sussex,  BN5 9SD
• Cost – No Cost
• More Information – This is a great place to come and seek out the bluebells this April and they really do come out in full force. This is a nature reserve with lots of walks to enjoy with plenty of opportunities to see the bluebells. It isn’t possible for dogs to attend these walks, but still a great place for the whole family to enjoy some time outside.

Brede High Woods – Sussex Bluebell Woods

• Where – Battle, East Sussex,  TN31 6EY
• Cost – No Cost
• More Information – This is an easily accessible wooded area where you can enjoy some of the best walks in Sussex. A beautiful wooded area and when the woods hit the month of April it becomes a sea of blue as the bluebells fill the woodland grounds. It is a stunning location and one not to be missed when seeking out bluebells in Sussex. There are two car parks here so you can easily gain access to the woods and start exploring with your friends and family. One not to be missed.

Battle Great Woods

• Where – Marley Lane, Battle, East Sussex, TN33 0RB
• Cost – No Cost
• More Information – A great place to explore and a stunning location to see one of the biggest displays of bluebells in Sussex. You can walk through the wooded area and be catapulted into a sea of blue. This is an eerily quiet location where you can truly get lost in the sounds of nature and wildlife. Children will love it and will be a perfect opportunity to let them explore and appreciate nature in all its glory.

Arlington Bluebell Walk & Farm Trail 

• Where – Bates Green Farm Tye Hill Road Arlington, Polegate East Sussex
• Cost – Adults £6. Children £2.50
• More Information – There are an incredible seven trails to explore in this popular wooded area in East Susses. With 23 acres of woodland in Beatons wood, rivers, wild garlic plants, and farmland, most of the areas are filled with beautiful bluebells throughout the months of April and May. You can follow the marked trails and even take a trip to the neighbouring Parkwood farm to see some of the wonderful farm animals. This is a location where you can make a day of it. Access for wheelchair users and perfect for younger children as well, this is a great option to consider when looking for bluebells in East Sussex.

Walk Wood – Sheffield Park

• Where – Sheffield Park, Uckfield, East Sussex,  TN22 3QX
• Cost – Adult price is £15. Children’s entry is £7.50, free for National Trust members
• More Information – A sea of bluebells gathering around the hornbeam trees will greet you at Walk Wood, a newly restored area of ancient woodland. A network of paths from the early 1700s has been recreated over the last 15 years by the head gardener at Sheffield Park. The historic woodland has an impressive carpet of bluebells in a peaceful setting making it one of the best bluebell walks in Sussex. You can also enjoy all of the amenities of the National Trust location, as well as explore the beautiful gardens. A great day out for the whole family.

Standen House

• Where – Hoathly Rd, East Grinstead, West Sussex, RH19 4NE
• Cost – Adult entry is £14 and children are £7. This includes parking. Free for National Trust members
• More Information – If you want a lovely location to visit with the family then you can’t go wrong with Standen House. A National Trust establishment you not only have a beautiful house and gardens to explore but the grounds are stunning. Especially during the months of April and May when there is a full blanket of bluebells. Perfect to capture some special pictures with your family and loved ones. Once you have enjoyed a good walk and exploration, you can have a quiet drink and something to eat in the cafe. A great option when looking for somewhere to enjoy the day or weekend.

Nymans

• Where – Nymans, Handcross, Haywards Heath, West Sussex, RH17 6EB
• Cost – The adult price is £16. The children are £8. This includes the car park. Free for National Trust members.
• More Information – Nymans is a National Trust location and one not to be missed if you are looking for a great place to spot the glorious bluebells this April. You have a beautiful estate and gardens to explore and the grounds are full of bluebells during the spring months. There is a woodland circular walk to explore. You will absolutely love visiting here and can expect all the usual luxuries of visiting a National Trust including parking and a great cafe to enjoy.

Slindon Park Woods – Sussex Bluebell Woods 

• Where – Top Road, Arundel, West Sussex, BN18 0RG
• Cost – No cost with free parking
• More Information – This is a National Trust location which is part of the Slindon Estate, but not one with the usual amenities we know and love. This is purely a place to visit if you want to get outside and explore the woodland and open space. There is a stunning display of bluebells in April and May and a great place to visit if you are looking for a cheap morning or afternoon out with the family. Dogs are welcome but a lot of the land is grazed so they must stay on a lead. Great for a picnic area.

Butchers Wood

• Where – Lewes, East Sussex, BN6 9PH
• Cost – No cost.
• More Information – This particular woodland lies in an area of natural beauty, so it is understandable that it is one of the best places to see Sussex bluebell woods. You can enjoy walking through the wooded areas where you will be greeted with a blanket of bluebells. Perfect to snap a few pictures and enjoy some time outside with your nearest and dearest. Parking is available close by.

Heaven Farm

• Where – Furner’s Green, Uckfield, East Sussex, TN22 3RG
• Cost – Adult ticket prices start at £5. Children’s prices and concessions are available.
• More Information – There is a lot to see at Heaven Farm and the bluebells are a huge highlight in April and May. There are the wooded areas, the parkland, and also the waterside walks where you can enjoy an enjoyable nature trail. The trail and most of the wooded areas are full of stunning bluebells, making it a great place to visit during the spring months. You can also get a chance to see some other incredible wildlife during your visit. Plus there is a cafe and even an ice cream parlour to finish off your visit.

Costells Woods

• Where – Haywards Heath, West Sussex, RH17 7PY
• Cost – No Cost
• More Information – Costells Wood near Haywards Heath is a site of ancient woodland and a designated area of wildlife importance. A haze of bluebells blankets the floor beneath the broadleaf trees that thrive in the area and you’ll find wild orchids and small ponds along the maze of pathways that trail through the bluebell walks in Sussex.

Angmering Woods

• Where – High Street, Arundel, West Sussex, BN18 9AG
• Cost – No Cost
• More Information – Breathe in that sweet bluebell scent at large 1300 acre Angmering Park Estate which dates back to the Norman Conquest and has one of the best bluebell woods in West Sussex. Dense swathes of our native bluebell in full bloom make for a beautiful woodland walk. You may also spot some grazing Highland cattle during your bluebell walk. Parking is available close by.
