Tulleys Farm Sunflowers – Sunflower Festival PYO Review

One of the things on my summer bucket list was to see the sunflowers, after all, I do love flower fields. So I was delighted when I found out the opening weekend at Tulleys Sunflower Festival was the only weekend we were free during the summer holidays. Although visiting Tulley Farm Sunflowers right at the start of the season did mean we were not presented with the sea of yellow I was hoping for. Yet there were still enough beautiful sunflowers to enjoy and pick your own sunflowers to bring home with us.

Tulleys Farm Sunflowers – What to Expect

We have attended a number of different events at Tulley’s Farm over the years the most recent was the Tulleys Tulip Fest although they are perhaps best known for their Pumpkin Nights. The boys are still too young for the Halloween freak nights which they put on although I am sure it will not be long before Charlie wants to go along. Yet this was our first visit to the popular sunflower field in West Sussex which we managed to squeeze into last weekend.

We visited on the opening weekend since we had other plans for the end of the Summer holidays. This did mean that some of the sunflowers were not out yet. They have planted them to allow the longest possible viewing opportunity and so this is to be expected to a certain extent. We still managed to enjoy the rows of vibrant sunflowers that were out and the many photo opportunities.

Sunflower fans will be pleased to hear that there are a combination of different types of yellow sunflowers. And lots of different colours including red, white and coral colours. Some have multiple heads and others look huge. I particularly liked the white ones which I had not seen before. As you are encouraged to pick them (see below) it is also possible wander amongst some of the rows. The Photo Opportunities at Tulleys Farm Sunflowers

As with all the the events that Tulleys Farm puts on there are many different props and selfie stations both at the entrance to the flower fields. But also amongst the sunflowers. Harry was particularly keen on the vintage car. Of which there are a couple. There is also a giant pair of sunglasses which were also very popular when we visited. If photos are your thing then you may want to time your visit to ensure a golden hour’ shot or perhaps even sunset visits. Buying Sunflowers at the Festival

I was very surprised to find that our tickets included one stem each. At the entrance were told that this free sunflower needed to be one of the vibrant yellow blooms and were given a pair of secateurs. Although it is possible to choose other coloured sunflower stems at £1.50 each. Of course, we could not resist some of the other colours and ended up picking four in total. Which more than filled a vase they were so big. At the exit to the sunflowers, there are some tables where you can cut off the leaves and some twine to tie your bundle. When you leave you also have the opportunity to get them wrapped at an additional cost.

Tulleys Sunflower Festival – Food Options

If you want to stay for longer then there is also a selection of street food available. As well as a range of hot and cold drink options. Expect to pay around £3 for a tea or coffee and £2.50 for a soft drink. The Potting Shed Bar sells beer, cider and cocktails. Beer and cider start at £4.50 with cocktails or a gin and mixer for £7.50. As we visited in the morning Harry and I opted for ice cream. They had chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, salted caramel and honeycomb to choose from. Two scoops came in at £4.50. But it did taste very nice.

As you would expect there is plenty of seating including some deckchairs. Along with toilets and space for the children to run around and climb on some karts.

How to get to Tulleys Sunflower Festival

Tulleys Sunflower Fest is located in Turners Hill, near Crawley in the beautiful West Sussex countryside. It is important to note that it is not at the same location as Tulley’s Farm escape rooms or the drive-in cinema as the farm spreads over acres of land. Although it is close by. It is clearly signposted but you can use the postcode RH10 4NA to reach the field on the Turners Hill Road. Because of the location, you do need to drive as it is not easily accessible by public transport. Next to the sunflower fields, there is on-site parking although it is not hard standing.

Tickets to Tulleys Farm Sunflowers

You do need to buy tickets in advance. I brought ours when they had early bird tickets on sale these allow you entry on any day you would like. In order to get notified of when they go on sale in the future sign up to their newsletter via the website. Alternatively, you can purchase entrance tickets through their website on the day and time of your choosing.

Please note it is a popular event so tickets do sell out. Especially on sunset days, at the time of writing this some of the remaining dates are already sold out. Costs are dependent on the day chosen and range from £8 to £12 per person and are the same price for everyone over the age of 2. Under 2s are free. Ticket prices do include a pick-your-own sunflower. We paid £8 each and a £3 booking fee for two tickets.

Tulleys Sunflower Festival is intended to open in early August each year to the end of August. I found that when I went to book the first wave of early bird tickets there was a sell-out of initial tickets

Closed on Mondays.
Daytime sessions are open from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm Tuesday to Sunday (last entry 4 pm)
Sunset sunflowers sessions are on Fridays and Saturday nights as well as over the last bank holiday in August. These run from 6 pm to 9 pm
