6 Best Places to go Pumpkin Picking in Surrey in 2024

This time of year we tend to go a little Halloween mad! And part of that is going to pick pumpkins at a Pumpkin Patch in Surrey. Now we actually live on the West Sussex, Surrey border and so some years we go to a pumpkin field in Sussex where there is a lot more choice. Other times we choose a pick your-own Pumpkin Farm in Surrey. Or depending on how busy we are we may even do both!

With the boys both at school, I find visiting a pumpkin patch is a fun activity to do on a crisp Autumn weekend morning for the whole family. Arriving before the crowds and if we are really lucky having the place to ourselves. Although thanks to Instagram over the last few years pumpkin picking has become super popular. With different varieties of pumpkin becoming avaliable from early October. Therefore, it is worth making your plans early as pyo farms will require you to pre-book a time slot to pick your own pumpkins. Updated September 2024.

Top tips for going to a pumpkin patch in Surrey

Pumpkin picking season runs from the end of September through to the end of October. However, it is dependent on the weather and whether the pumpkins have had a chance to harden off.
Many Pumpkin Farm Surrey will offer much more than just picking pumpkins. With lots of photo opportunities, a fancy dress competition, a mini corn maze and a tractor-pulled hayride. I even know of one that offers a haunted house and pumpkin nights.
It is Autumn so it goes without saying that many a pumpkin farm in Surrey can get very muddy. So appropriate footwear is a must, especially if there has been rainfall and you are visiting a popular location. Maybe check the weather conditions before leaving.
Most pumpkin patches in Surrey will come with wheelbarrows. In busy times you may have to wait to have access to one another reason to go early. Of course, if you have a wheelbarrow though the temptation is to fill it up!
The wheelbarrow will obviously need to be returned so you need to think about how you will transport your pumpkins into the house once you get home. A sturdy bag or box will help. Especially if you end up buying lots of little ones and lots of varieties of pumpkins!
Arriving early you will also get the best opportunity to pose for photos when going pumpkin picking in Surrey. The more set up the pumpkin patch is for photos the more popular it is likely to be. However, some of our favourite photos are just of the boys looking for the biggest pumpkin they can find.

When looking for a pumpkin make sure you pick one which is not damaged. Pumpkins should be hard to the touch and should sound hollow when you tap them.
Many are grown on their side and can be a bit flat or misshapen for this reason. To make sure your pumpkin is fresh, check to make sure the side that has been lying on the ground is not soft and mushy.
Do not pick a pumpkin up by its stalk as this can come away and damage the pumpkin. Plus I always think pumpkins with stalks look better! I also like all the different shapes and types. The more variety the better.
Generally, pumpkins are sold by size. The larger the pumpkin the more expensive it is. There is normally some sort of way of easily maturing the pumpkins. Either with different size boxes or holes.
It is worth having some cash on you in case they do not accept cards. There is also normally somewhere to buy a hot drink, snack from a pumpkin-themed menu or Halloween-inspired treat.
Be prepared to spend some time looking for your perfect pumpkin, especially if you go later in the season. Don’t rush enjoy the experience. And perhaps treat yourself with a pub roast afterwards next to a roaring fire.
Once we have carved our pumpkins we roast the pumpkin seeds and make pumpkin pies.

Pumpkin Patches in Surrey

There are not actually that many pumpkin patches or even Pumpkin farms in Surrey. Which I find surprising due to its proximity to London. Many people looking for a pumpkin patch in London will come out into Surrey. Compared to West Sussex where there are 12, Surrey only has 4 pumpkin patches. But I have also included two other places in Surrey where you can pick a pumpkin. Plus Surrey simply has tons going on from a Halloween events and experiences perspective.

Depending on where you live some of the Sussex pumpkin picking fields may be suitable, including Tulleys Pumpkin Farm which is actually near Crawley, on Turners Hill Road, in West Sussex but for some reason the popular place gets lumped in with Surrey pumpkin fields. Probably due to the plenty of photo opportunities it presents, delicious street food and even sells its own range of Autumn merch.

Places to go Pumpkin Picking in Surrey

Garsons PYO Farm

We have long been fans of Garsons Pick Your Own, visiting all year around. Although our favourite crops at the family-run farm tend to be strawberries, sunflowers and of course pumpkins! We have even visited the reindeer at Garsons pick your own and brought our Christmas tree. Although they have not made an appearance for a couple of years I am hoping that they will be back soon. The pick-your-own farm is huge, 150 acres and probably the easiest to reach if coming from London. There are several benefits of visiting Garsons. Not only are there acres of pumpkin fields, but you can pick other vegetables when visiting. You will be able to see what is ready at the entrance.

The other reason that it is one of the best pumpkin patches is that there is a large garden centre right next door. Which is great for presents and depending on when you visit there may also be Christmas decorations. They always have such a great choice. It also has a really nice cafe and I can recommend the cream teas and hot chocolate with plenty of options for the kids. As well as hot and cold dishes if you are wanting something more substantial.

The garden centre has a large car park but you are encouraged to take your car around the pick your own because it is so large. There are ample signs to point you in the right direction to the pumpkin fields.

Opening Times – Farm picking and Pumpkin Parade slots are available from 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Saturday and 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday. You can see on their website when the pumpkins are ready for picking. It is also worth checking their facebook page for information on their pumpkin season.
Booking requirements & costs – You will need to book a PYO farm pass in advance which can be done online. Slots are every half an hour and you have up to an hour to enter from your time slot. The cost of your ticket is offset against the price of your pumpkin(s). Pumpkin passes cost £4 for everyone over the age of 2, with free entry for those under 2. Their annual pumpkin festival is very popular and normally a sell out. Although they do sometimes release more tickets if you are not lucky the first time around.

Secretts of Milford Pick Your Own

Pumpkins are priced by size and they take both cash and card. They also have a Halloween-themed food stall and a BBQ selling hot dogs, hot and cold drinks and snacks. There is plenty of parking but you do need to pay attention to the signs and ensure you enter from the correct location. Normally there are various framed photo spots set up, with the best fancy dress outfits winning a prize. There is also biscuit decorating and a chance to try out some pumpkin pie and pumpkin soup.

Booking requirements & costs – Tickets need to be purchased online in advance. Tickets will go on sale on the 1st of September and expect the weekend tickets to be sold out quickly. Details of the booking website will be announced on their social media channels. Tickets cost £5 per person. The entry price is in addition to the pumpkins which start at £2.

Crockford Bridge Farm

The pick-your-own family farm runs various different events through October all linked to Pumpkins. On their website, there is a calendar explaining when these are on. Both the pumpkin picking and pumpkin festival are ticketed events. While the pumpkin market is available at the Pumpkin Farm in Surrey all through the weeks of October

Pumpkin Picking

This is where you can pick directly from the field normally the first two weekends in October. You will need an entry ticket and these must be booked in advance. It is only on for the first two weeks because of the risk of ground frost. This finishes before the pumpkin festival begins.

Pumpkin Festival – Pumpkin Week

This normally runs on the third weekend in October and over half term week, this year it is running from the 25th of October to the 1st of November. There are generally three time slots for Crockford’s Corner which last for around two hours. Includes roving Halloween characters, an outdoor pumpkin carving and decorating area, pumpkin shy and lots of photo opportunities. Pumpkins are available to purchase for the carving and are in addition to the price of your ticket. There are also Halloween-style drinks, Italian ice cream from the ice cream parlour and hot food available from food trucks. This is a separate event from the pumpkin picking ticket and costs £14.50 per person.

Pumpkin Boutique

It is also possible to buy pre-picked pumpkins at Crockford Bridge Farm. Where they have already harvested the pumpkins and squashes and are grown on the farm by hand, ensuring they are not damaged and that they retain their stalks. Before arranging a bountiful supply of shiny pumpkins on tables and hay bales for people to buy. A good option if you are looking for a wide range of pumpkins or pre-harvested pumpkins.

Priory Farm

For a slightly different pumpkin picking experience you can travel by tractor to the pumpkin picking fields at Priory Farm. The only way to reach the Pumpkin Farm in Surrey is via a tractor-pulled hay ride included in the ticket price. There is a lso a hay bale maze to get lost in. Pushchairs are not allowed on the trailer which leaves every fifteen minutes. Pumpkins are grown on the farm and you have the opportunity to pick directly from those fields. Your trip can be combined with visiting their Halloween spooky trail in Discovery Land, as well as the onsite farm shop and garden centre.

There is also a park and pick option without the tractor ride at a reduced price. Simply park your car within the designated car park and walk to the Pumpkin Field, just a stone’s throw away. You still have access to all the play features, Halloween-themed photo opportunities, and action-packed Pumpkin Games.

Opening Times – Various dates through October from the 4th October to the 1st of November. Time slots are half an hour each and run from 9 am to 3 pm. This is the time you catch the tractor to the pumpkin field. Allow at least an hour for your visit. The Halloween trail also needs to be booked in advance.
Booking requirements & costs – Unlike previous years you can now buy tickets on the door but it costs an additional 50p per ticket per person. The Pumpkin trail costs £8.50 to £10.50 depending on peak/non-peak. Pumpkin picking with a tractor ride is £8.50 with a ticket required for all over the age of one. Entry does not include the cost of the pumpkins which starts from £1.50 and increases in price depending on the size. Park and pick costs £6.50 per person (plus 50p booking fee).

Bocketts Farm Pumpkin Village

Bocketts Farm offers you the chance to visit their pumpkin village the perfect place for posed pumpkin photos. As it sounds, there are little houses and orange pumpkins at every turn. With wheelbarrows on hand to select your favourite pumpkin or multiple. Carving kits are also available to purchase in their shop.

The pumpkin village is part of a larger witches and Wizards week event held over the October half-term. Where special activities are put on, especially for the season. For this reason, it is one of the more expensive pumpkin picking experiences. Since the admission fees cover so much.

But you also get a full day of entertainment with your ticket. Including a reptile show, slime experiments, birds of prey, crafty corner and witches and wizards’ spooky trails. Along with all the other usual stuff found at an adventure farm including indoor soft play, outdoor play areas and jumping pillows, pony rides, tractor rides, farm animals and small animal encounter sessions/ petting zoo. Godstone Farm

If you are looking for somewhere to purchase a pumpkin and carve it as well then Godstone Farm has you covered. Although there is no pick your own here you can upgrade your visit to include pumpkin carving. Working on the same basis as Brocketts Farm, Godstone farm is first and foremost an adventure farm park. So it gives you a great opportunity to combine your Halloween adventures with a day out. For this reason, again tickets are more expensive.

The Halloween activities include broomstick flying, Rosina the fortune teller’s mystical predictions, Halloween mini golf course and explore the bone-chilling skeleton scavenger hunt. It is also possible to combine your Halloween ticket with a special low bangs fireworks event that is running on the 27th and 28th of October. The event is ideal for young children that are not sure about fireworks.
