Garsons Pumpkin Picking in Esher Surrey

Garsons Farm pick your own (PY0) pumpkin – updated 2023. We have been picking own vegetables and fruit at the family-run farm Garson PYO for as long as I can remember. Garsons Farm in Esher holds a very special place in our hearts. We have made some lovely family memories there over the years. However, we first discovered Garsons PYO when we went hunting for own pumpkins. In fact, these photos were taken on our very first visit to pick a Garsons pumpkin. Since then we have been back year after year to Garsons Farm as we think it is one of the best places to pick your own pumpkin. 

Where is Garsons PYO & Parking

Garsons pumpkin Farm is located on the outskirts of Esher in Surrey. Its close proximity to central London makes it an extremely popular pick-your-own farm. Thankfully they are set up for the footfall. Having lots of facilities (see below) land masses of parking. Not only that but Garsons PYO is around 150 acres of PYO fields, making it the largest pumpkin patch in Surrey.

Their website is always up to date with what is in season or ready for picking in their own fields. So there is no disappointment with kids in tow. It is well known for both sunflower picking and strawberry picking. I am also hoping that they bring the reindeer back this Christmas.

Do you need to book Garsons Farm for Pumpkin Picking?

If you are planning on visiting the pumpkin field, you do need to book a Garsons PYO farm pass in advance which can be done online. It is very easy to do via their website, make sure you do it in advance as it gets busy in the weeks of October. Slots are every half an hour and you have up to an hour to enter from the time slot you have selected. Which is great flexibility. 

The cost of your entry tickets is offset against the price of your pumpkin(s). It is nice to see that they are not trying to make a profit on the actual ticket. Unlike so many pumpkin farms in Surrey. They are also very reasonably priced. Farm passes cost £5 for an adult farm pass. An adult is classed as over 15, £2 for a child farm pass, children aged 2-14 years with an infant farm pass being free. You can only book six passes at a time. 

Arriving at Garsons Farm

When you arrive you drive into the garden centre there are several signs which direct you into the pick your own. It is clearly signposted. You will see a little kiosk where you show your farm pass. Then you are free to explore the farm with the car. Garsons Farm is so huge that the only way to get to the various fields is by car. Things are very well signposted so you should not have any problems finding what you are after. There is also a list at the entrance which tells you what is ready to pick.

Failing that at various points around the farm you will find a little hut. They are normally crewed in peak season. With everyone is always so willing to help and point you in the right direction. You can not miss the pumpkin fields of bright traditional orange pumpkins. The excitement levels are always high with the boys when they spot the pumpkin patches!

When we last visited Garsons Farm made the effort to cut some of the pumpkins which are ready. Those that are not quite there are placed on fleece to keep them off the ground in case it gets frosty. This way they can ensure the pumpkin you choose is in its best possible condition. 

Once you have picked your perfect pumpkin or any other vegetables. You drive around to the farm exit where you pay and scan your farm pass to offset the cost of the pass from your total bill of your own purchases. We normally end up with a large pumpkin and several small pumpkins. It really is one of our favourite places and such great fun for the whole family. 

How much do pumpkins cost at Garsons PYO

The pumpkins were very well priced at 89p a kilo which meant our medium-sized pumpkin cost us under £2. You can find details of the pricing for the gross weight of all their vegetables on their website. Which means you will not get caught out. I just wish all the pumpkin farms in Surrey did that! Especially with the boy’s general desire to pick the biggest pumpkin they can find! They mainly sell the orange varieties designed for pumpkin carving, rather than lots of different varieties of pumpkin.

Keep an eye out when you visit to see what else they have available as it’s a great place to pick your own fruit and vegetables as well. Depending on when you visit you can find apples, raspberries, sweetcorn, beetroot and carrots. You can check their website to see which crops of fruit are available before you visit here.  Really makes it a great family day out.

Facilities at Garsons Farm PYO pumpkins

As well as Garsons PYO there is also a large garden centre and farm shop right next door. 

I must admit Garsons garden centre is one of my favourite garden centres and is great for present hunting. They also have a wide range of toys so be warned if you are visiting with little ones. Depending on when you visit the Christmas decorations are particularly brilliant and I would encourage a return visit as it is like walking into a Santa’s grotto. 

After our picking expedition we were feeling peckish so checked out the cafe in the garden centre. The cafe is very comprehensive, offering hot and cold lunches, a wide selection of cakes and a lunchbox meal for the kids, which is what Charlie had. I opted for an afternoon tea which was delicious. The staff were very helpful especially when we needed to leave our table momentarily to visit the amenities.

The  farm shop which stocks all sorts of delicious-looking fare and local produce. Including fruit, veg, cheese and meat. As well as a selection of treats, the biggest selection of craft beers, homemade bread and baking and perhaps even a pumpkin pie.

You can see on their website when the pumpkins are ready for pumpkin-picking season. You should be able to get pumpkins right up to the 31st October. Please bear in mind that it will be bust during half term.
