The 10 Best Things To Do Near Vilanova i la Geltru. We stayed in Vilanova Park in a mobile home with Eurocamp in October. Although there is plenty to do in the holiday park itself there is also plenty to do in the nearby area. If you are looking for some day trips from Vilanova Park or Vilanova i la Geltru then I have pulled together a list of the things we got up to help when planning your holiday.

The 10 Best Things To Do Near Vilanova i la Geltrú

Located in the Catalan area of Spain around forty minutes drive to Barcelona Vilanova i la Geltrú and Vilanova Park is unsurprisingly a popular tourist destination. Although there is something for the whole family to do on the Spanish campsite. There is also a lot of things to do near to Vilanova Park. Meaning it can keep those family members who love the sun loungers happy along with those who want to explore the region’s cultural heritage.

Summary of things to do in Vilanova Park

The Vilanova Park campsite offers a great deal of things to do:

Many different activities, including table tennis, football courts, bouncing pillow, play areas, and tennis courts.
Of course there are the two pool complexes with outdoor pools, water slides, a splashdown area and toddler pools.
Along with a wellness centre, offering a steam room, indoor pool and spa treatments.
The onsite animation team during high season run fun activities for the entire family. Including theme nights and lively music. There is also a children’s club whihc offers a variety of activities for younger guests.

As we visited in the low season, although there was still plenty to do we wanted to explore the local area and with car hire being so well-priced at this time of the year we headed out to several of the places mentioned below.

Barcelona

My husband and I visited Barcelona around twenty years ago, I have since been back taking Charlie when he was just five years old. There is plenty to do in Barcelona with young kids. If you are not keen on driving into the centre of Barcelona then there is a direct bus that goes from Vilanova Park several times a day Monday to Friday. Many of the popular attractions do need booking in advance, including Park Güell, Camp Nou and the Sagrada Família. If you would prefer to keep excursions on the cheaper side then you can explore the Las Ramblas, the covered food market and take part in a self-guided walking tour spotting all the Gaudi buildings or even visit the city beach.

Vilanova i la Geltrú

This is the most local town to Vilanova Park, you can catch the local bus from directly outside the holiday parc, which runs throughout the day. The Vilanova Park App will allow you to download the bus routes and also a tourist map of the town. With beautiful beaches flanked by palm trees and beach bars that allow you to enjoy the sea breeze over a tipple over some tasty tapas. There is plenty of shopping opportunities and it even has its own castle – Castle of Geltrú. If you are visiting with children then you may want to head to The Museu del Ferrocarril de Catalunya – The Railway Museum of Catalonia where you can see a replica of the first train.

Sigtes

An old fishing town which is only a short drive from Vilanova Park is Sigtes. With parking right on the seafront you can enjoy the stunning golden sand beach that has several play areas along the front. All are looked over by the imposing Church of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla. There is a small old town made up of white and blue buildings that used to be old fishermen’s houses. If you are looking for some culture then there are two museums of interest. The Cau Ferrat Museum, which was once the home of artist Santiago Rusiñol now houses a collection of modernist art. Along with The Maricel Museum which is more like a palace. Unfortunately, both were shut when we visited. Although there are plenty of tourist shops and eateries – A day trip to Sigtes

Port Aventura Theme Park

We have visited PortAventura World before when the kids were very young. Since then they have added Ferrari Land which boasts the tallest rollercoaster in Europe. During high season you can buy combination tickets that include both theme parks along with the Caribe Aquatic Park. It is a forty-minute drive from Vilanova Park and you should allow a full day to enjoy everything on offer. Tarragona

It is not that often we visit somewhere and get way more than we were expecting. Tarragona is one of these places. You can catch a train from Vilanova i la Geltru which takes 55 minutes. We drove and it took us around forty minutes in the car. Head to the tourist information and pick up a map which marks all the points of interest in this picturesque town. It is the oldest Roman settlement in the Iberian Peninsula which means there are several different fortifications of significance. Including the amphitheatre on the coast, a circus and on the outskirts an aqueduct, which is worth a visit. Although you do need a car to visit the aqueduct as it is 4km outside of the centre – A day trip to Tarragona.

Costa Dorada – Cambrils and Salou

Not far on from PortAventura World are the resorts of Cambrils and Salou around fifty minutes drive from Vilanova. Offering even more opportunities for beach excursions and everything you would expect from a Spanish holiday resort. We have previously stayed in Cambrils and enjoyed the floodlit fountains which perform to music each night along with a wide selection of water sports. Vilafranca

Vilafranca really needs to be on your must-visit list especially if you visit at the same time of year as we did. We were so lucky to catch the last Human Towers Festival of the season. Where the Castellers of Vilafranca and three other societies built human towers in front of our very eyes. It was an amazing experience. The town is located around half an hour’s drive from Vilanova Park – Human Towers our experience in Vilafranca.

Montserrat

This is the furthest trip we went on during our stay near Vilanova i la Geltru with it being an hour’s drive. Located north of Barcelona in the mountains, Monserrat Monastery and Nature Reserve make a good day trip. There is a lot to see and do including the cog train, the Basilica, cable car, two funicular railways, walking routes and museums. Garraf Natural Park

Also around fifty minutes away by car is Garraf Natural Park which is well known for its hiking and biking trails. It also holds various events and activities throughout the year and in good weather offers star-gazing. See the agenda on the offical website to see what is on.

Take a wine tour

Vilanova i la Geltrú is in the middle of the Penedès wine region which means it is an ideal base to explore. Known for a wide selection of wines especially Cava there are several different wineries nearby to explore. It is also possible to go on a guided tour.
