25 Advent Activities for a 3-year-old. I can not believe we are almost in December. It won’t be long before Monkey is eagerly opening the doors on his wooden advent calendar. With this in mind, I have finally got round to writing out the activities to go in it. There are some similarities with the activities we did last year, which can be found here – Advent Activities for a 2-year-old. This effectively acts as our bucket list for the holiday season
25 Advent Activities for a 3-year-old
- Write a letter to Father Christmas
- Play with playdough and festive cutters
- Make and decorate Christmas cards for friends and family
- Make snowflakes
- Paint ceramic decorations
- Cut down the Christmas tree and have tea on a vintage bus
- Decorate the tree
- Make a snow globe
- Have some sensory fun with homemade frozen snow
- Make some pine cone decorations
- Stick together some paper chains
- See the reindeer & visit Father Christmas on the train
- Make some Christmas scented play dough
- Choose a Christmas craft
- Eat Christmas popcorn
- Make the grandparents some DIY gifts
- Drink hot chocolate with marshmallows
- Make festive bird feeders
- Ice the Christmas cake
- Drive around and see the Christmas lights
- Make reindeer food for Christmas Eve
- Decorate the gingerbread train
- Go to the pantomime
- Open one present before Christmas Day – Monkey’s Christmas Eve Box
- Sing and dance to Christmas songs

This is lovely – I do like the idea of making your own calendar rather than lots of cheap chocolate (and more fun than just pictures!).
I love seeing advents to give me some ideas I am hoping to do some activities with Blake.

What is Christmas Popcorn and how do I make it?? I’ve finally found a decent gingerbread recipe so I need to hunt out some gingerbread men cutters – I want to try the upside down reindeer! Ooh it’s nearly here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love this, I always make a holiday list of stuff I want to do and also do regular guides for Christmas and other seasons. I like the idea of trying one different activity every day

What great ideas! We did an activity one last year, a book one the year before and a (mostly) crafty one this year. Read Christmas books would be another suggestion and make a bird food feeder too. This year’s craft list includes a variety of tree decorations, paper plate crowns, snowmen faces (involving paper plates and a lot of cotton wool balls!), potato printing to make wrapping paper and a wreath using circles of cardboard and holly stickers. Have a fun advent!

Oooo I like this idea. You’ve reminded me that I got a secondhand wooden advent calendar last year. Need to get it down from the loft before Tuesday. I like the idea of doing things instead of just filling with chocolate. I might not get around to an activity every day but even some would be good. Thanks!
Ah, thank you so much for this post, it as reminded me of things that I need to do come next week. We do the Elf on the shelf and Emma is getting a Lego advent calendar so they will all have to come down from the attic on Monday night. We always send Christmas cards into her school too so I need to get the name list, once again!xx

This is a beautiful list of ideas and makes life seem so idyllic! I’m looking at a Velcro nativity advent calendar with all the kings and shepherds and poor baby Jesus on the floor somewhere! My son is desperate to bring the Christmas tree in from outside…think that’s a job for tomorrow…just hope it’s still alive and all the pine needles don’t fall off!!

That’s fab. We do a book advent calendar but when my eldest grows out of our current books, I think we’ll do something like this to go with it. I’d love to have tea on a vintage bus! Ours would probably include ‘drink hot Vimto at the Christmas markets’. This year we’ve also taken chocolate coins to the local food bank and have bought presents for the elderly (a local loneliness campaign). Enjoy the rest of advent x #justanotherlinky
