The Best Places to see Snowdrops in Kent 2024

I really enjoy getting outside in the Winter months, especially on a beautiful sunny yet cold Winter’s day. We tend to use our National Trust membership a lot in the first few months of the year and early Spring. I like being able to spot the first delicate flowers as they make an appearance. But as well as the National Trust properties there are lots of other places you can spot snowdrops in Kent or even go on a snowdrop walk in Kent. Many of the places mentioned below are gardens which means you do not have to go hunting around in the woods to find snowdrops near me. I really need to plant some snowdrop bulbs in my own garden.

The Best Places to see Snowdrops in Kent

Ightham Mote

Where – Mote Road, Ivy Hatch, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN15 0NT
Cost – Free to enter for National Trust members, the prices do alter depending on the time of year you visit and if the house is open. The house opens early March on the 1st of March 2024 and at this point, adult tickets without gift aid cost £16, a child £8 and a family £40.
More Information – If you are hoping to explore snowdrops in all their glory then Ightham Mote is the perfect place. A spectacular estate with a beautiful formal garden and during the month of February you will be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery and self-led tour of the snowdrops. It is a National Trust location so there is a lovely cafe to enjoy as well. You can enter the gardens Monday through to Sunday.

Hever Castle

Where – Hever, Edenbridge, Kent, TN8 7NG
Cost – Closed until the 7th of February 2024. Tickets and prices will be available on the website nearer the time and should be booked in advance.

You will get to enjoy not just the castle and grounds when they reopen in February, but also some of the best gardens showcasing beautiful snowdrops. You can find these woodland flowers in different areas of the garden. There are over 140,000 snowdrops planted on the grounds of Hever Castle and they offer a self-guided snowdrop walk in Kent with interesting facts along the way. For those on the lookout for these Winter flowers, you can find not just the common snowdrop or Galanthus Nivalis. You will also spot different varieties of snowdrops such as the yellow tipped ‘Wendy’s Gold’. A giant Galanthus called ‘Colossus’ which at 9 inches is one of the tallest snowdrops you can find and Galanthus ‘Green Brush’ with its unusual green tipped flowers. Copton Ash

Where – 105 Ashford Rd, Faversham ME13 8XW
Cost – Adults are £5 and children are free, the garden is part of the National Garden Scheme
More Information – This garden opens on several days throughout the year for the public to visit and see the ever-changing displays of unusual, seasonal plants. The owners have a special interest in snowdrops, and you will be able to view them on two occasions during the month of February. Saturday 10th of February and Sunday 18th of February. You do need to book to avoid disappointment but it is well worth making the effort to see the snowdrops in this great garden.

Doddington Place Gardens

Where – Church Lane, Sittingbourne ME9 0BB
Cost – Adults £9 Children £3
More Information – Although the notable gardens are generally not open until Easter they are open for the National Gardens Snowdrop Festival on the 25th of February opening times between 11 am and 5 pm. Tickets need to be booked in advance via their website. There is a 10-acre garden with wide views. As well as spotting the different varieties in the snowdrop gardens. There are plenty of trees and clipped yew hedges. The woodland garden with azaleas and rhododendrons, an Edwardian rock garden and a formal garden with mixed borders. Keep an eye out for a flint and brick gothic folly. There is a woodland garden, a rock garden with pools which is currently being renovated and a sunken garden.

Great Comp Garden

Where – Comp Lane, St Mary’s Platt, Sevenoaks TN15 8QS
Cost – Adult £10 Children £3.50 free entry for the under 5s.
More Information – You can enjoy the annual snowdrop fair here along with an unusual plant sale in this beautiful garden. Great Comp Garden’s Snowdrop Sensation Plant Fair will play host to snowdrops ranging in price from £5 to £500 for a single bulb. Specialist nurseries will convene at Great Comp to display their Spring flowers. With lots of snowdrop, rare plants and unusual plants
You will see carpets of snowdrops across the different areas of the Winter garden. You can enjoy all of the fun as this is the first time since 2019 that this event has been held. Hole Park

Cost – Entry cost £8 normal entrance to the gardens is £11. So you get a discount attending the plant fair.
More Information – Another plant fairs roadshow. You can enjoy the annual festival of snowdrops and plant fair snowdrop festival event here on Sunday 11th of February for one of the best displays of Snowdrops in Kent. Spot unusual varieties and more common snowdrop varieties such as double snowdrops and Wendy’s gold. Open from 11 am to 3 pm. This garden is usually only open during the summer months but it makes a special exception for the snowdrops. Each year the gardeners take pride in the snowdrops display. It is advisable to book tickets in advance via the website.

Knowle Hill Farm

Where – Marshfield, Chippenham SN14 8BB
Cost – £6 for adults and children are free, booking is required via the National Gardens Scheme website.
More Information – Visit the country farm and see snowdrops sweep across the woodland floor. The farm, situated on the edge of the north downs, has some incredible views with two acres of beautiful gardens to explore and plenty of woodland walk. The garden has 100 varieties of snowdrops and is one of the best places to see swathes of snowdrops in Kent. Snowdrop days will be Saturday and Sunday 3rd and 4th of February 11 am to 3 pm as part of the Snowdrop Festival. Hot drinks, sausage rolls and cakes will be served. They are also very happy to receive visitors by appointment to see the snowdrops in late January and February.

Spring Platt Snowdrops

Where – Spring Platt, Boyton Court Road, Sutton Valence, Maidstone, ME17 3BY

More Information – This one-acre garden is one of the first snowdrops displays of the year to open to the public. There are more than 400 varieties of snowdrops grown in beautiful tiered display gardens and spring borders and, as you stroll through the garden, you can also catch panoramic views of the Weald. A wonderful location to see snowdrops in Kent. Open days are the 21st, 24th and 28th of January and the 1st and 4th of February. From 10.30 am to 3.00 pm.

Sissinghurst Castle Garden

More Information – A wonderful National Trust location where you get the opportunity to see drifts of delicate snowdrops spread across the stunning gardens. A beautiful location to visit and one where you can expect all of the great things from a usual National Trust property. A cafe and also lots to see. A great option for the February half-term. Chartwell

More Information – When looking for snowdrops near me then another wonderful National Trust property with sprawling gardens to explore with the family. During the month of February, it is one of the lesser-known places to see snowdrops in Kent, but it is still a spectacular sight. You will get the chance to see some of the amazing snowdrop displays while also exploring the gardens and enjoying a nice warm drink in the cafe when you are done. This great place also has a stunning rose garden in the summer months and a great play area for the children to enjoy.
