The boys love a board game and we are always on the hunt for new games. The sillier the better so they were all up for trying out the upside-down challenge game. The upside down challenge game is a hilarious game perfect for family game night. And for once it really is something different the boys have both declared it is their favourite board game. Which is no small accolade.

The Upside-Down Challenge Game is an interactive and hilarious activity that challenges players to complete simple tasks and activity challenges while experiencing the world from an inverted perspective. This innovative game is designed to turn ordinary tasks on their heads, quite literally, and provide a fun and entertaining experience for players of all ages.

This challenge game is designed for children aged seven or over. Harry turned six a month ago but he still really enjoyed playing the game and could do it on his own without help. The aim of the game is to collect five chips. It is as simple as that … or is it? In order to win a chip, a player must either guess what is being drawn or have their drawing guessed before the timer runs out. Or if it is a challenge card then they must complete the simple tasks within forty seconds.

The challenges included in the game may range from easy tasks such as drawing a picture, assembling a puzzle, or pouring a drink, to more complex activities like navigating an obstacle course, playing a sport, or completing a specific set of instructions. The unique twist of experiencing these activities from an inverted perspective adds an element of surprise, laughter, and entertainment to the gameplay.

The Upside-Down Challenge Game encourages creativity, adaptability, and quick thinking as players must adjust to the altered visual perception caused by the goggles. It also promotes laughter, camaraderie, and lighthearted fun as participants navigate the humorous and sometimes absurd situations that arise during gameplay.

The compact box contains

Instruction sheet – both on how to play the game but also another explanation booklet which describes the challenge cards
The chips which need to be pressed out before use
A pair of upside down special glasses
32 playing cards – a stack of challenge cards including both action task and drawing task cards
A sand timer (20 seconds)

In addition to the items in the box, you will also need some things from home. Not all of these are needed at once

3 cardboard toilet roll tubes
Pen
Pad of paper
1 teaspoon
2 beakers
1 bowl
A cup of water

So how did we get on with playing the Upside Down Challenge game?

The boys could not wait to try out the new game and had great fun with the upside down goggles. I was pleased to find that we did not need all the additional bits to do the action cards. Instead, we picked those that we wanted to do looking for achievable tasks for our first attempt. Although we almost came a cropper when the boys pushed out the counters. Not initially realising we needed it for a couple of the activities. You start with the youngest player.

The drawing cards, in particular, were a big hit with Harry who was the first player and picked them up really quickly. Although the only thing I would say is to ensure your paper is on a surface you do not mind being written on! As he struggled to keep the drawing on the paper initially as his simple eye-hand coordinations adapted. Charlie preferred the action challenges which help to develop fine motor skills. The game took around thirty minutes in total. I did give it a try but the pair of goggles made me feel a little sick! However, this did not seem to bother the boys who had so much fun with this great game.

The other thing worth noting is that the goggles do not fit over glasses. Something worth thinking about if your children wear glasses. And in my mind, it needs addressing by the manufacturer. Due to the nature of needing a reasonable amount of other things to do some of the challenges. The game is probably not suitable for travelling. You can also make up your own challenges from the simplest tasks.

This type of game is ideal for family gatherings, parties, or social events, as it fosters a sense of shared enjoyment and encourages interaction among players.
