Review Playmobil Volkswagen Beetle & Camping Bus. We have long been fans of Playmobil. But at four Harry is only just starting to discover Playmobil and the magic it holds. He loves any sort of vehicle so when we were asked to Review Playmobil Volkswagen Beetle & Camper Van, I, of course, said yes.  Partly because I knew he would love them, but also because I have an affinity to Volkswagen Beetles and  Camper Vans myself.  Not only do they remind me of my late teenage years and early twenties but they were also the wedding cars that we chose. With my bridesmaids arriving in a yellow and white camper van, and my dad and I make a grand arrival in an old split window beetle.

Harry decided that we had to start with the  Camper Van.  Like our other Playmobil sets, there were elements that need to be put together before we can start play.  Harry quite likes building things but I was anticipating having to do most of the putting together. But actually, I was pretty redundant, he only needed a little bit of help with the wheels and attaching the seats.

Putting together the Playmobil Volkswagen Camper Van

In the box, you get the various elements packaged up, along with detailed instructions and some stickers to add to the build. The instructions are very easy to understand predominately pictorial based. This meant that Harry could easily understand them as well.  It took us about twenty minutes to put the camper van together. I did the majority of the stickers. The only part we had a little trouble with was manoeuvring the seats into the back of the van. But with applying a little bit of gentle pressure they did eventually clip-in.

Love the way he sticks his tongue out when he is concentrating. I really like the fact that Camping Bus has been designed to include many characteristic details. Such as the iconographic V-shaped front end with red and white colour separation and red VW logo, rounded roof, split windshield and removable roof rack.

To get into the camper van there are opening double doors on the side and roof also comes off. This gives you an excellent view of the authentically designed interior.  There is so much attention to detail, with a folding table, folding seats which turn into a bed and a fridge. The doors also have another fold-out table which acts as a vanity area and shelving. I really like all the extras that come with the Camping Bus as it really adds to the imaginative play.

Playmobil Volkswagen Beetle

The Beetle is even quicker to put together only took about ten minutes. Again it is easy to do with Harry doing the majority of it on his own. A lot of thought has gone into accessories that accompany the toy. As you also get a little beach area and surfboard. Which the child figure can actually stand upon. I really like the added touch of including a brief history of the iconic car in the instruction pamphlet.

Just like the camping bus, the beetle has all the characteristic features that make it so unique. Such as the curved fenders, the VW logo, the vertical windshield, the blue paint and the typical rear hood with a 4-cylinder boxer engine.

The doors of the beetle do not open but you can easily access the inside of the car by removing the roof rack. The two vehicles go really well together. Harry has loved playing with them together, going on picnics and playing at the beach.

Things we love about the Playmobil Volkswagen Beetle & Camping Bus

  • The authenticity of both vehicles is really good, you can not help but fall in love with them. Harry will need to watch out as I would quite like these for myself.

  • The reason I have always been drawn to Playmobil for the boys is the quality. The toys have a sturdiness about them which I have not found anywhere else. The attention to detail is also very good with lots of little accessories many of which have well-printed stickers to attach to them.
  • Play is endless. Only limited by imagination. Anything that helps with their creative storytelling scores well with me. But it is all the little accessories that come with these toys which really help develop their thought processes
  • Both will go well with some of the other playsets and figures that are avaliable in the Playmobil range.

Harry really enjoyed playing with the Volkswagen Beetle and the Volkswagen T1 Camping Bus, priced at £39.99 and £49.99 respectively. Designed for children over the age of five they are available to buy at all good retailers. You can also purchase them both from Amazon – Playmobil Volkswagen Beetle* and  Playmobil Volkswagen T1 Camping Bus*.

  10. What a fantastic review! I’ve been sitting on the fence over playmobil as I was thinking of waiting it out until my daughter is old enough for lego or sylvannians because I’d always considered playmobile to be overly simplistic but I can see from these two I was way wrong. We love family travel and surfing and are mid van conversion (not a vdub unfortunately) so I’ll definitely be sticking this on little girls birthday list 🙂
